When visiting the Edison Birthplace Museum, please be aware of the following:

  • Mandatory Facial Coverings & Hand Sanitizer. To protect our employees and visitors, everyone must wear a facial covering and use hand sanitizer at the front office.
  • Social Distancing. Guided Tours will now have a limit of 3 individuals to practice social distancing, although family groups who live together may have up to 4 members.
  • By-Appointment Only. To avoid congestion in the office, we have implemented a “By-Appointment Only” policy. We have launched a new booking option online, as well as the option to call us.
  • Restrooms. We have closed our restrooms until further notice to decrease the spread of germs.

Re-Opening Plan

The Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum is closely monitoring the current COVID-19 statistics to determine when it's safe to re-open for our tour guides and guests. We hope to be able to re-open by the end of February into the beginning of March.

Please keep checking our website and follow us on our social media platforms for the fastest up-to-date information.

New Online Booking System

We have been hard at work building a fast, user-friendly online booking system. We are happy to announce it is up and running for our first event, Thomas Edison's Birthday.

The online booking system is through PurplePass and can be found on our website. There is no need to leave, or open new tabs, as everything is built into our website for your convenience.

Once we determine our re-opening date, you will begin to see tour times located on the calendar. You will be able to select your ticket type, quantity, your tour time, and delivery method (mobile ticket or get an admission sticker at the front office). You will also be able to pay online, so we can reduce contact when you come to the museum.

If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].

It was in the winter of 1876 that Thomas Edison started to build his first laboratory under his father Samuel's supervision at Menlo Park in New Jersey. This lab was the first of its kind to pursue practical commercial applications of research. It’s where the phonograph was invented and the commercially viable incandescent light bulb filament was developed.
