Dust Collection Industry News

Donaldson Addresses Fabricators’ Needs with the New Torit® Fume Hood
AST Canada installs the Torit® Fume Hood where a versatile hood is required to add at-source-extraction capabilities for manual or robotic welding applications.
Torit® Fume Hood
The Donaldson Torit® Fume Hood is the ideal solution for operations whose applications include robotic welding or manual weld cells. The Fume Hood’s low-profile provides greater installation flexibility than traditional canopy-style hoods and its engineered design provides effective weld fume collection in the most challenging environments. When paired with the optional weld curtains, the Fume Hood can be sized to reduce airflow requirements, ultimately lowering the overall cost of the entire dust collection system.

Whether connected to an existing system or a dedicated cartridge collector, the Fume Hood brings added extraction capabilities to any operation. The Fume Hood comes in multiple sizes and is available in free-standing and ceiling-mounted configurations for better integration into your workflow.

Dust Collection System Design for Mining
Agenda
Most mining and mineral processing operations create significant amounts of dust. Often heavy and abrasive, that dust is hard on equipment, employees, and the environment. Without an effective dust collection system, organizations put themselves and their production at risk.

The webinar will address:
• Objectives of dust collection system design for mining operations.
• Primary components for an effective dust collection system: Hoods, ducts, collectors, and fans.
• How to identify the ideal filtration media based on your materials, processes, and applications.
• What to look out for during the design planning phase to avoid some common mistakes.
• Q&A session with participants.

Product Feature
Polypropylene Process Tanks
100% polypropylene is a high-strength, monolithic material that will not corrode, become brittle, or de-laminate, even when exposed to aggressive chemicals, over very long periods of time. It has very low moisture absorption, is compatible with both high and low temperatures, and has excellent thermal insulating properties. It is exceptionally stress and crack-resistant and has excellent dielectric properties.
Polypropylene is resilient and well-suited to manufacturing and process environments where impact can occur from parts handling devices, fork trucks, hoists and other material handling. Any damage is easily repaired, without interrupting service.

Polypro weighs less than all other thermoplastics. It is exceptionally resistant to strong acids – even at high temperatures – and also resists alkalis and oxidizers. It can be welded and thermoformed, and has a high strength-to-weight ratio. Polypropylene is easy to fabricate, economical, and has a long track record of success in the manufacture of tanks, tank hoods, ducting and workstations, for industrial and laboratory environments.

Heads up: NFPA 660 Standard for Combustible Dusts is coming
Article by: Jack Osborn
NFPA committee member Jack Osborn provides an update on the upcoming consolidated combustible dust standard.
For a considerable time now, the NFPA has wanted to combine the five main commodity-specific combustible dust standards, 61, 484, 652, 654, and 664 (Food, Metals, Fundamentals, Chemical, and Wood) into a single standard resembling NFPA 70, the National Electric Code. During the last few years, this process has been ongoing and is now at the end of the First Draft Phase and moving into the Second Draft phase. Each “phase” has been designed to allow the public (and many NFPA committee members) to have direct input into the configuration and content of the proposed standard.
