Case Study - BERICAP
Case Study of New Line Installation at BERICAP

BERICAP is one of the leading manufacturers of plastic closures for the beverage, food and industrial markets.

New Equipment Sourcing
When BERICAP decided they needed a new plastics granulator they contacted Cumberland, a world leader in plastics granulators and shredders, to supply the machinery for the new production line.

Explosive Dust - Safety First
BERICAP's Safety Engineer firstly contacted AST Engineering to perform dust testing on samples from the new granulator to determine explosivity of the dust samples. Our testing determined that the dust samples were indeed explosive.
System Design
AST Engineering determined the proper Donaldson dust collectors required, designed the ducting system which included a FIKE Explosion Suppression System and gave design input to Cumberland for necessary components needed in the granulator, like the air make-up system. We then produced a 3D Model in SolidWorks for the complete system.

Sourcing Equipment
AST Canada sourced, supplied and coordinated delivery of all the necessary components for the dust collection system required around the new Cumberland granulator.

Installation & Custom Manufacturing
AST Mechanical manufactured all the necessary ducting components and installed all the equipment, including the granulator, the conveyor system and all the dust collector system components at the BERICAP facility.
Fire Pump Testing, Installation, Service & Repairs 
The fire pump is a crucial element to a building’s fire sprinkler system, delivering water to the sprinkler heads in the event of a fire.

NFPA and local fire departments require diesel and electric fire pumps to be run and maintained with accurate maintenance and testing records.
If a fire pump is not tested and serviced properly, the repair bills can become astronomical. Since fire pumps are typically kept out of the way and hopefully not used very often, fire-pump maintenance becomes extremely important to ensure the fire pump operates correctly in the event of a fire.

Feihe Canada Royal Milk
Feihe Canada Royal Milk (CRM) is Ontario’s newest food manufacturing company, with production starting in September 2019. Canada Royal Milk manufactures formula for infants and young children using both cow dairy and goat dairy.
New Packaging Line

The new packaging line required a dust collection system to capture milk powder nuisance dust. The system needed to match the following design criteria:
  • Contain and capture the dust; prevent it from escaping to the facility
  • Comply with the Ontario Ministry of Labour and Ontario Fire Code
