Challenging Environments Call For Unique Solutions
The Downflo® Ambient Fume Collector meets today’s metal fabrication operations’ need for innovative solutions to help keep up with new applications and increasing production demands. To accommodate new opportunities, you need welding equipment and supporting tools that are flexible enough for changing layouts and workflows.

Donaldson Downflo® Ambient Fume Extraction System
The Downflo® Ambient (DFA) is a powerful ambient collector developed specifically to help address challenges in your welding operation. The collector’s ductless installation is helpful for facilities challenged by overhead space limitations or frequent layout changes.
The DFA is designed to collect fumes from the welding field as they rise. The collector then returns filtered air near floor level to assist with air circulation. Multiple extractors can be placed throughout the manufacturing area to account for a wide variety of materials, piece sizes, and various weld locations requiring a different set-up.

The Essentials of Fire Extinguishers
There are many types of fire extinguishers. It is important to use the proper extinguisher for the specific job. It also needs to be noted that for a fire extinguisher to be effective the extinguisher must be:
- the right type/rating for the job.
- accessible and close at hand
- in good working order
- used on a fire that is still small
- used by a trained person

Dangers of Vapor – Dust Explosions: Practical Consideration for Hybrid Deflagrations
In process facilities, the risk of an industrial explosion always exists. The risk can be reduced or minimized with proper deflagration protection; either administrative or engineered. However, for that protection to be optimally effective it should be based on genuine experimental data. This data may be readily available for gases and vapors. Explosibility data for dusts are commonly sample-specific and not material-specific; thus, data for the actual process dust is required. The data may have been previously generated during a safety review. But often safety reviews overlook the added complexity of a hybrid mixture (dust in the presence of gas/vapors). In a hybrid mixture the vapor from a solvent or a process gas can exacerbate the explosion severity and ignition sensitivity of dust. If these considerations were neglected during the Dust Hazards Analysis (DHA) then the explosion protection schema may be insufficient to mitigate the hazard because it relied only on dust cloud explosibility data.
Attend this webinar and learn:
- Factors to consider protecting against hybrid dust explosions
- Nuances in testing that can skew the data

High-Efficiency Dust Collection Systems with Low Maintenance & Operating Costs
The Whirl Wet Dust Collection System works by infusing dust particles with water. The unique process mixes the two through a fixed-position dual opposed blade system. Once the dust-laden airstream and liquid are mixed, a tangential airstream is injected through the lower blade assembly to increase turbulence.
After the rotation is accelerated, droplets in the airstream are processed through a mist eliminator located downstream, and particulate material is deposited on the bottom of the unit for recovery or disposal. Water level is maintained automatically and additional water is only needed to compensate for evaporation or sludge removal.

Rapid-Response Fire Suppression Systems for Industrial Process Applications
Firefly AB is a world-leading supplier of spark detection, fire & dust explosion protection systems - using patented IR detection technology & rapid water mist extinguishing to provide greater safety and productivity
Firefly is a Swedish company that provides industrial fire prevention and protection systems to the process industry worldwide. Since 1973, Firefly has specialized in creating customized system solutions of the highest technical standards and quality. Based on customer needs and research Firefly has developed and patented products and solutions, creating a unique portfolio of innovative products and system solutions to increase the level of safety.
Firefly's industrial applications include customized fire prevention systems, which monitor industrial processes in areas such as woodworking, tissue, food, bioenergy, and recycling. The company is represented worldwide and sales are made through distributors in Canada.
AST Canada provides Firefly systems throughout Ontario and the rest of Canada. These systems are unique in their ability to detect rises in temperature along a process line and react within milliseconds to extinguish potential ignition sources using water-based misting systems that consume very little water. Compared to traditional sprinkler systems that can take 4 to 8 minutes to react to a fire, the Firefly rapid response systems revolutionize fire suppression in process industries worldwide.
