Dust Collection Industry News
Optimizing Dust Collector Filter Cleaning Technology
Increasing Filter Life & Cost Savings

Early Dust Collection

Early dust collection systems used passive filtration to separate dust from various airstreams. Filters inside a collector gradually loaded with dust, and, over time the pressure drop across the filter media increased until there was so much resistance the airflow through the system dropped below an acceptable level.

Key Improvements

Key improvements in dust collection occurred when active cleaning was developed to recondition filter media that stayed in the collector. Over the years, various methods of active cleaning were applied to dust collectors, including both mechanical and reverse air methods.

Article Highlights

In this article we will cover:
  • Mechanical Cleaning
  • Reverse-air Cleaning
  • Pulse-Jet Cleaning

Standpipe System Inspection
A standpipe system is a series of pipes at a building, connecting the water supply to hose connections. A standpipe system is an extension of the fire-hydrant system for use by firefighters or trained occupants in the event of a fire in the building.
Standpipe system testing in Ontario came into effect on July 1, 2018, and all building owners needed to comply by January 1, 2019, according to Ontario Regulation 108/18.

Factors Affecting Explosion Vent Size Calculations Webinar
Course Details:

This presentation will answer the following common questions regarding dust explosion vent sizing challenges:

  • How does KSt and Pmax values affect the size of an explosion vent?
  • How do particle size and moisture context affect dust cloud explosibility?
  • Can the presence of gases and vapours change the size of the vent area?

Webinar Details:

Speaker: Dr. Dastidar specializes in chemical process hazards analysis, flammable dusts, liquids & vapours explosion and combustion hazards analysis and testing and electrostatic hazards analysis. He has extensive technical experience performing tests and analyzing data to determine electrostatic hazards, dust explosibility hazards, flammability hazards, thermal stability and reactivity hazards, and hazard analysis and risk mitigation. Dr. Dastidar has published 12 articles and presented at more than 20 conferences. Understanding Connected Equipment
Taking the Mystery out of the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT)
How Connected Equipment Can Benefit Manufacturers of All Sizes
IIoT IS NOT The Same as Automated Systems
The industrial Internet of Things (IoT) has generated a lot of press, but still faces obstacles in adoption. Some of it stems from doubts about return on investment. IoT is often confused with automation systems, the expensive IT networks running large manufacturing operations. The expense and specialized personnel these systems require put them out of reach for many operations.

Internet connectivity is different—in how it works, the purpose it serves, and who can take advantage of it. It’s relatively affordable to install sensors on equipment and send data to the cloud, making its benefits available to manufacturers of all sizes.
