Early Dust Collection
Early dust collection systems used passive filtration to separate dust from various airstreams. Filters inside a collector gradually loaded with dust, and, over time the pressure drop across the filter media increased until there was so much resistance the airflow through the system dropped below an acceptable level.
Key Improvements
Key improvements in dust collection occurred when active cleaning was developed to recondition filter media that stayed in the collector. Over the years, various methods of active cleaning were applied to dust collectors, including both mechanical and reverse air methods.

Standpipe System Inspection |
A standpipe system is a series of pipes at a building, connecting the water supply to hose connections. A standpipe system is an extension of the fire-hydrant system for use by firefighters or trained occupants in the event of a fire in the building. |

Standpipe system testing in Ontario came into effect on July 1, 2018, and all building owners needed to comply by January 1, 2019, according to Ontario Regulation 108/18. |

Speaker: Dr. Dastidar specializes in chemical process hazards analysis, flammable dusts, liquids & vapours explosion and combustion hazards analysis and testing and electrostatic hazards analysis. He has extensive technical experience performing tests and analyzing data to determine electrostatic hazards, dust explosibility hazards, flammability hazards, thermal stability and reactivity hazards, and hazard analysis and risk mitigation. Dr. Dastidar has published 12 articles and presented at more than 20 conferences. He has a Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, Dalhousie University, an M.A.Sc., Chemical Engineering, Technical University of Nova Scotia, M.B.A, Management Science, Saint Mary’s University, and a B.S., Honors in Chemistry from Dalhousie University.
