What could you do with $25,000?
Since its founding in 2007, the WASH Rotary Action Group has been dedicated to its Mission:

“To support and ensure sustainable long-lasting safe water, sanitation and hygiene programs to communities in need.”

To further this cause, WASH-RAG’s Board of Directors is delighted to announce a one-time, special grant of $25,000 to encourage Rotary Districts and clubs to become active participants in a WASH project. Better still – that $25,000 will be eligible for a dollar-to-dollar match from DDF and/or cash contributions to the Global Grant.

Eligibility
All Rotary Districts and Clubs qualified to participate in The Rotary Foundation’s Global Grants Program can apply for the grant. Clubs who have participated previously in a small WASH project, funded by a District Grant are encouraged to apply.

How to apply

•  All applications must be submitted to [email protected]

• Copies of the following documents are essential:
Community Assessment
The Global Grant application – especially
Step #1 – Basic Information;
Step #3 – Project Overview;
Step #8 - Budget and
Step #9 – Funding.

• Applications will be reviewed by WASH-RAG’s Grant Review Team Deadline for submissions is April 30, 2022

• The Team may suggest some changes. If they are acceptable, they
should be incorporated into the final draft of the Global Grant application.

• A copy of the final draft should be sent to [email protected] when
the Grant is submitted to The Rotary Foundation.

Approval
Grant funding is contingent upon approval by The Rotary Foundation. Upon receipt of a copy of the Foundation’s approval, the WASH-RAG grant will be transferred directly into the Global Grant.

Hand-Hygiene for All at Rural Coastal Health Care Facilities in Bangladesh:

An Initiative by Rotary
By PHF Bilqis Amin Hoque, PHF Dr Noor and RC Dhaka Mid City. R.I. District 3281
2020 Global Progress Report on WASH in Health Care Facilities (HFC) observed globally hand hygiene facilities at points of care among 68% HCFs, services (functional hand hygiene facilities available both at points of care and at the toilets) among 68% health. Bangladesh Hand Hygiene at point of care was included among 21-50% category.
Although the benefits of hand hygiene in preventing the transmission of infectious diseases in health care facilities (HCF) have been known since 1850 and many countries have been observing ‘Global Handwashing day’; coastal rural public HCFs in Bangladesh are seriously lagging in various aspects of handwashing (level of knowledge, facilities, maintenance, governance, etc) after even about 2 years in the Corona pandemic (EPRC report under preparation). Bangladesh National Strategy for Wash in Healthcare Facilities 2019-2023 and UNICEF report have acknowledged the problem in regard to access to facilities as well as lack of assessment data on the issues. The role of hands in the transmission of infectious diseases, including Corona, are recognized.

The Corona-19 virus spread mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets and contact with these droplets on furniture, clothes, and other surfaces. People often touch their face, mouth, nose, and surfaces with infected and/or not infected hands, even without knowing it. Hand-washing (HW) with soap kills/removes Corona and other germs from hands. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.2 indicator of hygiene has called for access to HW basic facility for all by 2030 and UNICEF-WHO for HCF also.

The WASH Rotary Action Group is pleased to consider partnerships with any corporate supporter. Due to the unique attributes of water sources and water provision, acceptance of corporate support does not imply an endorsement of any particular water technology. Rotarians, Rotary Clubs, and Rotary partners must evaluate any technology to determine if it is the best solution for the conditions where the program will be implemented. The WASH Rotary Action Group can provide guidance about where different technologies work best, but Rotarians and Rotary clubs must make the final decision about how to implement their programs. Email us about your ongoing or finished project at [email protected].
