Keep your storm drains clean this fall!

Cleaning storm drains before it rains helps prevent flooding. So grab your rake and make sure that the storm drains near your home aren't clogged by leaves or other debris!

Follow these tips to make sure you are removing debris safely and effectively:

  • Use a shovel, broom or rake; never your hands!
  • Remove debris along the curbs within 10 feet of the drain.
  • Never lift a storm drain grate.
  • Bag all organic material (leaves, grasses, etc.) and place it in a yard-waste container. Trash can be bagged and placed in garbage bins.
  • Wear gloves to protect your hands.
  • See and be seen! Wear bright and reflective clothing.
  • Contact Clean Water Services at 503-547-8100 if a storm drain remains clogged after cleaning
