Financial assistance available for sidewalk repairs

If you have damaged or displaced sidewalks, property owners in the Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD) can apply for reimbursement on approved repairs. 

The Sidewalk Repair Grant Program was created to lessen the financial barriers to keeping sidewalks in good condition. Property owners are responsible for the maintenance of sidewalks adjacent to their property.

The Sidewalk Repair Grant Program will reimburse property owners within the URMD up to $2,000 for the repair or replacement of damaged sidewalks by a licensed contractor. Eligibility details and application instructions are available online.

The URMD funds the program, which can award up to $100,000 per fiscal year. The URMD is a service district that supports road maintenance and biking and pedestrian projects.

County staff go orange for work zone awareness

Wednesday (April 23) was Go Orange Day in support of National Work Zone Awareness Week.

Dozens of staff arrived in orange to bring attention to the deadly dangers of inattentive driving in work zones. When you see orange signs on the roadway, it's a signal to slow down, pay attention and follow directions.

Thank you to the staff and community members who are helping make every construction season more safe for workers and travelers.

Support transit safety, access improvements on TV Hwy

Show your support for the Tualatin Valley Highway Safety and Transit Project which will improve transit access safety, enhance rider experience and improve speed and reliability. 

Take the survey to provide input on five projects eligible for $88.5 million in bond funding that Metro is considering as part of the Regional Flexible Funding Allocation. Combined, the five eligible projects total $120 million – 26% more than the proposed bond funds. Your input can help Metro decide which projects to fund. 

The survey closes Wednesday (April 30). 

Share comments on projects proposed for project funding

Metro is asking the public to complete an online survey on projects proposed for 2028-30 Regional Flexible Fund Allocation (RFFA) grant funding.

Cities and counties in the Portland Metro area have submitted 24 applications - including nine submitted by jurisdictions in Washington County, requesting $139 million in RFFA funds. Anticipated available funding is $47 million-$60 million.

Share your thoughts about the Bonita Road and Sequoia Parkway Intersection Project through an online open house through Sunday (April 27).

The project includes a traffic signal with improved streetlighting and ADA-compliant crosswalks.

Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026.

Talk with staff about the Alexander Street Project from 5-7 p.m. Monday (April 28) at Living Hope Fellowship, 3350 SW 182nd Ave.

The updated Alexander Street Project design, between 178th and 192nd avenues, includes:

• Curb ramps, sidewalks and streetlights

• Markings for shared vehicle and bike lanes

• Alternating parking and landscape strips

• Improved storm water drainage

• Pedestrian/bike crossing at 185th Avenue

No presentation is planned; drop in any time during event hours.

Comment on the draft Planning Work Program 2025-27 in an online open house through 5 p.m. May 30. 

The Planning Work Program identifies tasks for our Development Review/Current Planning, Transportation Planning and Community Planning staff. It describes planning projects, potential land use ordinance and other activities for a two-year period. 

All comments received by 5 p.m. May 30 will be provided to the Washington County Board of Commissioners prior to adoption of the final work program.
