Share the Road: Farm vehicles on the road for harvest

Washington County farmers are on the cusp on harvest season, which means more farm vehicles will be on the roads. Share the road with farm vehicles to make sure all travelers stay safe.

If you're driving behind slow-moving farm vehicles, slow down immediately. Look for the orange, triangular slow-moving vehicle sign. To stay out of the farm vehicle's blind spot, try to maintain a distance of about 50 feet behind the equipment.

Pass farm vehicles with care. Farm vehicles are often wider than they appear. Wait for the operator to pull over. Wait until you are confident that the operator is pulling over for you to pass. Farm vehicles may need to pull over to the right to take a wider turn into gates, driveways or access roads on the left.

If a wide farm vehicle is travelling in the opposite direction, give them the right-of-way in the event they can't safely pull onto the shoulder.
