Don't count on luck: Drive sober for Saint Patrick's Day

If your Saint Patrick's Day celebration plans include drinking or using other recreational drugs, don't take any chances behind the wheel.

Of the 74 drunk-driving fatalities in the U.S. during the 2022 Saint Patrick's Day weekend, 49 involved drivers with a blood alcohol level almost twice the legal limit.

Driving under the influence can result in a DUII, jail time, injuries or death. Before picking up a pint or any other intoxicant, remember these tips:

  • Select a designated driver.
  • Be ready to order a rideshare or call a cab if you need to travel while intoxicated.
  • Make arrangements to sleep over after a party if you can’t get a sober ride.
  • Ask for your party guests’ keys if it is safe to do so.
