You've likely seen work zones on Washington County roads as construction season is well underway. Help keep our work zones and road workers safe by driving responsibly.
Work zone crashes are preventable. According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, most work zone crashes are caused by drivers not paying attention. Speeding is the second leading cause.
When you seen orange signs in the road, slow down and pay attention. Follow all directions on signs. These tips can help prevent deadly work zone crashes:
- Look for traffic pattern changes
- Be patient and follow directions when flaggers are present
- Check your blind spots and move early when signs or flaggers tell you a lane is closed
- Never cut off trucks or busses and leave extra space
- Never move signs to get around road or lane closures
