A $1,571,172 Safe Routes to School grant for pedestrian improvements benefiting students in the Aloha area was awarded to Washington County by the Oregon Transportation Commission on Jan. 16.
The grant will allow Land Use & Transportation to make improvements near Aloha Park and Huber Park elementary schools, the International School of Beaverton, Mountain View Middle School and Aloha High School. The project will:
- Complete sidewalk gaps on the west side of 175th Avenue (from Kinnaman Road to Blanton Street).
- Install an enhanced school crossing on 175th Avenue at Chris Street.
- Connect to the new sidewalk on Florence Street.
Washington County’s project was one of 28 submissions, with a combined investment of more the $31 million. See the list of grant recipients.
The projects are funded through Oregon Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School Competitive Construction Grant Program.
