County awarded Safe Routes to School grant

A $1,571,172 Safe Routes to School grant for pedestrian improvements benefiting students in the Aloha area was awarded to Washington County by the Oregon Transportation Commission on Jan. 16.  

The grant will allow Land Use & Transportation to make improvements near Aloha Park and Huber Park elementary schools, the International School of Beaverton, Mountain View Middle School and Aloha High School. The project will: 

• Complete sidewalk gaps on the west side of 175th Avenue (from Kinnaman Road to Blanton Street). 
• Install an enhanced school crossing on 175th Avenue at Chris Street. 
• Connect to the new sidewalk on Florence Street. 

Washington County’s project was one of 28 submissions, with a combined investment of more the $31 million. See the list of grant recipients. 

The projects are funded through Oregon Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School Competitive Construction Grant Program.  

Tustin Ranch Drive access at Thompson Road closes

Effective Thursday, Jan. 23, Tustin Ranch Drive no longer connects to Thompson Road.

This permanent intersection closure is part of the Thompson Road Realignment Project. This change was expected to occur at the same time traffic was rerouted to the new alignment (Kenny Terrace); however, the contractor's schedule changed.

Temporary barriers are in place while contractors build a new sidewalk and curb across the former access. When the sidewalk is complete, permanent barricades will be installed on Tustin Ranch Drive.

Old Thompson Road will close at Saltzman Road for realignment in the coming months. No dates have been set. Visit the Thompson Road Realignment Project webpage to learn more.

Jan. 30 - Proposed classroom addition, interior remodel

At 6 p.m. held at site at Dilley Elementary School, 4115 SW Dilley Road. The site is 9.98 acres in the AF-5 District (Agriculture and Forestry, 5-acre minimum) and is located on tax lot 1S4130002000.
