Microtransit Pilot Program Sees Early Success

Washington County’s SPOT Southwest launched on January 5, giving 17 rides on its first day of operation.

Today, SPOT (Shared Public On-Demand Transit) averages 66 rides a day in neighborhoods of Southwest Beaverton and River Terrace in Tigard that currently lack access to public transit.

Riders are using this free, on-demand service, operated by Ride Connection, to reach key destinations like Washington Square, Mountainside High School, shopping centers, and TriMet connections.


Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, praising SPOT for providing a safe, reliable alternative transportation option, particularly for students, older adults, and people with disabilities.

Community support for SPOT Southwest continues to grow, with the service already reaching its targets a full year ahead of schedule. More than 1,300 people have downloaded the app to schedule rides since January!

Washington County has applied for state grant funding to keep SPOT running beyond June 2027 and expand its services to the weekends.
