Washington County is well-stocked with anti-icing agent in preparation for the winter season, thanks to three new, larger storage tanks.
Land Use & Transportation (LUT) installed the tanks late 2020, increasing storage capacity of anti-icing agent (magnesium chloride) by more than 30%. The liquid is applied before icy conditions develop to encourage melting.
“We have enough magnesium chloride on hand for four applications covering our Washington County roads,” said Keith Lewis, Operations Superintendent. “That’s more than we’ve had traditionally going into the winter.”
The additional supply allowed LUT to plan for potential delivery delays, Lewis said.
“We’re well stocked,” Lewis said. “But we’re continuing to monitor the shipping situation to stay on top of things.”
The Pacific Northwest is expected to experience another La Niña winter. Visit the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for more information.
