This holiday - give the gift of slowing down

December can be stressful for many. Shopping, visiting family and friends and attending celebrations can result in rushed, impatient drivers. One way to ensure a Happy Holiday: Drive the posted speed limit.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drivers running late is one of the main reasons people speed. They drive aggressively because they have too much to do and need to get to their next destination. Obviously, it's better to drive safely than it is to speed to be on time.

Tips for dealing with speeders and other aggressive drivers:

  • If you are in the left lane and someone wants to pass, move over and let them by.

  • Give speeders extra space. They may lose control of their vehicle more easily.

  • Adjust your driving accordingly. If a speeding driver is tailgating or trying to engage you in risky driving, use your judgment to safely steer your vehicle out of the way.

  • Call the police if you believe a driver is following you or harassing you.
