Survey respondents support transportation projects that improve safety, equity and the environment

Sidewalks, access to important locations, and paths for pedestrians are among the top five transportation improvements people said are very important/important in our recent survey.

More than 250 people took the survey in the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP) ’23-’28 online open house, which ended Feb. 11. MSTIP is an innovative program to pay for road improvements. The program improves our transportation system for bicyclists, pedestrians, drivers and bus riders.

The open house asked people to tell us what is most important to them as they travel in Washington County. The survey had four categories: Safety, equity, natural environment and healthy economy.

The improvements receiving the highest percentages of "very important/important" responses are:

  1. 78% Fill in missing sidewalks (Safety)
  2. 74% Increase access to important locations (such as work, shopping, schools, medical offices and other locations) (Equity)
  3. 70% Create paths for all who walk, bike and roll (Safety)
  4. 66% Limit the effects of air pollution (Natural environment)
  5. 64% Improve sidewalks and crosswalks near bus stops and MAX, with a focus on communities who face the greatest transportation challenges (Equity)

Staff is continuing to analyze the survey data. Results will help us create a list of projects available for public comment later this year. For more information, subscribe to email updates

Give us your feedback.

Middle Housing Poll

Should we offer “perks” to encourage building duplexes, triplexes and other “middle housing?
I support this!
Not a fan. Don't do this.
I have no opinion.
