Watch for Icy Conditions:
Road Crews Working to Keep Commute Safe

Yesterday's late-afternoon precipitation and overnight freezing temperatures have created slick conditions on some roads this morning.

Our crews have been sanding roads since 4 am and are tending to priority routes before peak travel hours to keep the morning commute as safe as possible.

Drive with caution during commute hours:

Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Increase following distance—at least three times the normal space on icy roads.
Brake gently and avoid sudden lane changes.
Use low-beam headlights and turn off cruise control.

Please allow extra time if you’re driving, biking, or walking.

Road Operations Sharpen Winter Skills
with Snowplow Simulator

Equipment operators from LUT’s Road Operations & Maintenance Division were trained on state-of-the-art snowplow simulators at Tillamook Bay Community College.

The hands-on experience allowed operators to practice critical winter driving techniques in a safe, controlled environment.
The simulators replicate real-world conditions , helping operators refine their response to challenging winter weather.

This proactive training ensures our crews are ready to keep roads clear and safe when snow and ice hit Washington County.

Location: Evergreen Road/Milne Street
Impact: Traffic signal shutdown for utility work
