πŸŽ† Happy New Year! πŸŽ†

Make Resolutions for Safer Travel

Resolution #1: Light Up the World Around You

The days are slowly gaining daylight, but we still have reduced visibility for 15 hours or more each day.

  • Cyclists and pedestrians: Use lights and reflectors that can be seen easily in low light
  • Drivers: Use headlights at night and during the day, especially in fog or rain. ο»Ώ
ο»ΏHigh beams are essential for rural roads at night, but make sure you switch to standard headlights when approaching a vehicle within 500 feet of you, or within 350 feet (or 20 car lengths) of a vehicle traveling in the same direction

Resolution #2: Take it Slow

Adjust to traveling conditions to keep you headed in the right direction.

  • Speed limits are the maximum speed you can legally travel on a road in ideal conditions
  • Slow down in low visibility conditions or when roads may be slippery
  • Slow down in work zones and near stopped vehicles with flashing lights

Resolution #3: Stop with Mindfulness

Obeying traffic rules reduces crashes and saves lives.

  • Stop for buses with flashing red lights on either side of the street
  • Pull to the right and stop to allow emergency vehicles with lights or sirens to pass
  • Stop for stop signs and when indicated by traffic signals

Resolution #4: Focus on the World Around You

Staying alert can help everyone make it home safely this year.

  • Avoid distractions when traveling - keep your eyes and mind on the road
  • Pull over for phone calls and texts, or wait until you arrive at your destination
  • Avoid multitasking when driving or cycling
  • Don’t wear earbuds or headphones that might make it hard to hear sirens or other warnings
