Elwert/Kruger Intersection project receives award

The Elwert Road and Kruger Road Intersection Project received a 2022 Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Oregon.


The award names both Washington County and HDR Inc., the project engineering firm. It recognizes innovation, complexity, achievement and value.


The city of Sherwood, Sherwood School District and Washington County funded the $21.5 million project.


“This project improves traffic flow and safety for all travelers," said Joe Younkins, Capital Project Services Division Manager. 


The project included a roundabout, traffic signals, stormwater treatment and sidewalks. Improvements to Elwert, Kruger and Haide roads, Orchard Hill Lane, Sunset Boulevard and Highway 99 were also included.


Construction finished in October 2021.

Comment on the Basalt Creek Parkway Extension project though an online open house until March 13. The project will includes five vehicle lanes with bike lanes, sidewalks and streetlights. The extension includes a bridge spanning Tapman Creek and a new traffic signal where Basalt Creek Parkway will meet Boones Ferry Road.

Register to participate in the Washington County Board of Commissioners' Town Hall focused on building equity into the County budget process. The virtual event is 6-8 p.m. March 9. We are proposing changes to the Community Development Code and the Comprehensive Framework Plan to allow more middle housing. Middle housing includes duplexes, triplexes, quadplexes, townhouses and cottage clusters.
