Dear Rebecca,
Since we announced CHES (soon-to-be Navèt 1804 Foundation) activity pause at the end of last year so much has happened. There's been no time really to process the assault of traumatic events (both natural and human-made) that have occurred in Haiti. Gang violence, over 400 murders to the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, to another earthquake Saturday, August 14 th, a seismic event that was twice as strong as that of 2010. Today searches for people under the rubble continue, and, already the death toll is greater than 2,000 people. When I talk to some of the youth in Haiti a repeated theme is the heavy stress that they feel. It's simply heartbreaking.
Despite it all, we remain ever-heartened by the leaders on the ground who press forward blazing new trails and catalyzing new movements demanding political accountability and systems that work for all Haitians and that are Haitian-led. Haitian leaders are also asking the international community to do better ( #2021pa2010 on Twitter) by earthquake victims this time than what was done in 2010. Much of the +$13 B pledged in 2010 was either squandered by larger foreign non-Haitian organizations or never actually donated to Haiti.
We heard from the entrepreneurs of the hentastic Klèb Foumi Laborde, Anonyme (KFLA) poultry far, victims of the 2016 hurricane that this earthquake was yet another blow to the tender progress they were making. Again many members lost their homes and in the worst cases their loved ones. Since we are in a unique position to help them directly, we had to. Between now and December 31, 2021, we are sending relief funds to KFLA and some other trusted organizations that are reaching the furthest corners of Southern Haiti as follows below:
The first $1,000 raised will go to the hentastic poultry farm entrepreneurs. You can learn more about our journey from 2017 to 2020 with them here.
The next $1,000 raised will go to COFHED. This is an organization that focuses on community-driven and led efforts working in some of the more remote and overlooked parts of Southern Haiti including Lougou, which has been hard hit.
The next $1,000 raised will go to a trusted hometown association of L'Asile. A dear family friend has been highly involved in L'Asile, his hometown for decades. The infrastructure that this group of diaspora built has suffered immense damage.
The next $1,000 raised will go to the Haiti Community Foundation Initiative. This is an organization that is in Grande-Anse in the South that focuses on supporting local community-driven and led efforts.
The next $1,000 raised will go to FOKAL, a well-respected national cultural organization that is dispersing funds to trusted hyperlocal community organizations and coalitions.
The next $1,000 raised will go to Health Equity International, one of Haiti’s premier referral hospitals that serves much of the Southern Department in Haiti.

We are cycling the grants to these entities Haitian sòl or sou sou-style. Thankfully, with the support of Navèt 1804, the company, Maron Realty, and Rose Roseme we've already raised the first round of grants!
We need your help to raise another cycle with a tax-deductible donation. Thank you that your heart continues to remain open to Haiti!
Sincerely,
