A Dollar A Day Impact Report | April 2019

Welcome to the start of Spring! We're excited to continue our journey to put more money on the front lines of mental health and addictions across Canada. Below, we will share some of the work we've been doing on behalf of all Dollar-A-Dayers.

While change is happening for mental health and addictions, there is still much work to be done. And, like many things, many hands make lighter work. If you have not contributed yet, you can be a part of this movement for improved mental health and addictions care! Please consider becoming a Dollar-A-Dayer - together we can make a difference!

We have lots of exciting things to come in the near future, and we invite you to follow us on this journey! And, if you're ready to join our movement now to help put more money on the front lines of mental health and addictions care, please visit us at www.adollaraday.ca !

All the best,
Brendan, Alan & Andrew
A Dollar A Day on the Danube

On a recent Doyle on the Danube tour, Niche Travel Group from Dartmouth, NS and AmaWaterways sponsored a fundraiser on a cruise from Budapest, Hungary to Vilshofen, Germany (with several stops in Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic along the way).

The fundraiser was highlighted by an auction on a package that included 4 VIP tickets to an upcoming Alan Doyle and the Beautiful Beautiful Band concert of your choice.

The winners of the auction were Ross and Karen Mitton of Windsor, Ontario. The event raised close to $10,000 for A Dollar A Day Foundation and added more Dollar-A-Dayers to our movement. Thanks Ross and Karen, we will see you at a future show!
Talking Partnerships with Out of the Fog

This week, Co-Founder Brendan Paddick and Johnson President Ken Bennett joined Rogers TV's Out of the Fog in St. John's, NL, for an interview to talk about the work of the Foundation.

We were delighted to talk about our first corporate partnership, with Johnson Insurance, and the impact they are making. The partnership is the first of its kind for both organizations and through this partnership Johnson will not only be directing more dollars to important front line mental health and addictions programs but will help the Foundation reach its goal of directing 100% of funds donated by individuals to the front lines of mental health and addictions care.

Thanks to host, Melissa Royle, for a great conversation and for shining a light on the importance of supporting mental health and addictions care.

Be sure to check out the interview with Out of the Fog beginning on April 17th! You can visit their website for more information.

Learn about our work in our monthly Impact Report

When we launched the Foundation in February 2018, we made a commitment to keep our donors and supporters up-to-date on the happenings in and around the Foundation. It is important to us that we can share all of the good news made possible by our Dollar-A-Dayers, and provide opportunity to learn more about the organizations we support, that are working on the front lines of mental health and addictions care!

We encourage you to follow us each month in our Impact Report - if you've missed past editions you can check them out on our website.

And, we welcome your feedback for the Impact Report. You can send us an email with your comments, questions or concerns - we'd love to hear from you!
Supporting A Dollar A Day: An Act of Kindness

On April 11th, the A Dollar A Day Foundation was invited to host an information booth for employees of Nalcor Energy and NL Hydro as part of their Annual Acts of Kindness Week.

In 2018, Nalcor Energy became the Foundation's first Employee Giving Partner, providing their employees with an opportunity to choose A Dollar A Day Foundation as their Charity of Choice through their payroll giving program.

Thanks to everyone at Nalcor for inviting us to spread the word about the Foundation, and for encouraging more conversation about mental health!

We're very appreciative of your Employee Giving partnership! #ActsOfKindness
Spring is in the Air; gardening for mental health

With Spring in the air, we start to think about spending more time outdoors enjoying nature and all it has to offer. For many people, gardening is one of those beloved activities we look forward to with the start of each Spring season.

But, did you know that gardening can be good for your mental health?

We invite you to check out this article from Psychology Today, Petal Power: Why Is Gardening So Good For Our Mental Health? by author Sarah Rayner.
In case you missed it: A dollar a day for youth mental health

Recently, Louise Bradley, President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada and our very own Alan Doyle, co-authored a piece in the St. John's newspaper The Telegram.

" Even though we’re both from Newfoundland and Labrador, you might think that’s where the similarities end, since one of us is a musician-songwriter and the other is president and CEO of a pan-Canadian mental health organization. But beyond our hometown roots, we share the belief in the power of stories to offer hope and healing."

We hope you will take a minute to read this article in The Telegram
