News & events in the world of Ayurveda
January 2019
From the Ayurvedic Clinic, Ayurveda Institute UK and
the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals UK
Happy New Year!
From all of us at the Ayurvedic Clinic, the Ayurveda Institute UK and the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals.
We start the new year with fresh initiatives and exciting news.

The Ayurveda Institute goes from strength to strength as we announce dates for our new Sanskrit Sound Therapy sessions with Gabreilla Burnel, Sanskrit classes for G.C.S.E., and our ever popular massage courses.

At the Ayurvedic Clinic, we have expanded our team of expertise with Dr Anura Chandrasekara and two more expert massage therapists. The clinic premises have expanded to accommodate another consultation room and therapy room.

All of this is in the service of our patients, students, practitioners and members and without whom the community would not exist.

Dr Anura Chandrasekara DSAMS

Dr Anura is a senior Ayurvedic physician who has been in continuous clinical practice for 25 years principally in Europe.

He has spent much of his practice as the Head and Chief physician at leading Ayurveda Health Centres in Germany and Sri Lanka. As well qualifying from Kalaniye University in Sri Lanka with a DSAMS, he is a seventh generation traditional Ayurvedic doctor in his hereditary lineage, his own father having been the Director of Bandaranaike Ayurveda Research Institute and Professor at Institute of Indigenous Medicine at Colombo University.

Dr Anura has expertise in the treatment of chronic disorders which are prevalent in Western society such as diabetes, asthma, arthritis, MS, ME, dementia, cholesterol and heart conditions. He is also an expert in fertility, specialising in men’s issues. He has vast experience in the use of Panchakarma therapy for the treatment of chronic disorders as a result of modern lifestyle.

He joins with Dr Wathsala Wijesinghe and Dr Deepika Rodrigo to make up a team of Ayurvedic physicians with almost a century of collective experience.

SANSKRIT SOUND THERAPY
with
Gabriella Burnel
We are excited to offer Sanskrit Sound Therapy Sessions with Gabriella Burnel as part of our range of therapies for our patients.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, Sanskrit Sound Therapy
Gabriella is a scholar of the ancient language of Sanskrit and music . She has dedicated her life to these disciplines and their capacity to heal. Having studied Sanskrit from the age of 4 years old and read Sanskrit at Oxford, she is a modern day master.
Sanskrit Sound Therapy
In the modern age, more than ever, disorders that appear in the physical body originate from psychological factors. Despite advances in our connectivity online, our capacity to nurture true connection and self expression has reduced. Our one to one communication breaks down and more of us experience feelings of isolation. Without the opportunity to express ourselves in the right way, we cannot release the very energy that is accumulating and causing the physical imbalance. Emotion itself manifests as energy in the heart chakra.

One extraordinary way to release this energy is to use Sanskrit sounds to create a vibration that allows the release of tension deeply embedded at a cellular level in the body. Sanskrit is the pure language, the sound of creation. It is the extension of natural sound vibration in the universe. Using Sanskrit sounds, suppressed emotions that are beyond articulation and which suppress the throat chakra can be released.
Sanskrit sound is counselling beyond words. It has a deep impact on emotions which can be released through singing, chanting, laughing, crying or indeed any response that emerges as a result of the vibration.
Sanskrit sound therapy can help with many conditions from hypo & hyper thyroidism, goitre, throat cancer, depression, anxiety as well as many conditions who’s origin is emotional or psychological and balance the corresponding chakra including fertility issues, digestive issues, skin disorders and many chronic disorders.
A short consultation at the beginning of the session allows Gabriella to identify the imbalance in the constitution (dosha) and its manifestation in physical or psychological disorder. The whole session is then individually tailored to address your specific needs. Gabriella works with sensitivity and compassion to hold a sacred space for each person.

Sound therapy sessions last 1 hour or 30 minutes
Sessions take place on Wednesdays & Thursdays @ AIUK

CHARITY WORK
Sri Lanka
See how your kindness has benefitted so many ...
We sent out an appeal to our patients and students to help underprivileged children and families in Sri Lanka.

Thanks to you, in December, we are able to provide 60 wheelchairs, school equipment for another 100 children (in addition to 200 previously) and another 10 scholarships in addition to the 32 scholarships already awarded.

Your donations are so helpful and the scholarships are making such a profound difference to the lives of the children and their families. The opportunity to continue their education changes the trajectory of their lives and their communities. When we contribute in this way, it is a great lift to our spirit to know that we are capable of bringing so much benefit to others. We know that these children and their families have sent prayers of gratitude to us and our karmic pathways, which is the purpose for our existence.

If you have had a thought to participate, please know that it is a great thing you are doing ... contact us at the Ayurveda Institute or the clinic to find out how.
