So. What is a CSA? (Community Supported Agriculture)

There is debate about how, where and when the concept started, but working models can be traced back to the 1950's in Japan, Chile and Germany and have been spreading across the world ever since.

Community Supported Agriculture is a business model that provides a dependable market for a farmer's harvest by pre-selling the best produce before it is even in the ground. In exchange Harvest Partners are guaranteed a share of an ever-changing

harvest each week.

Frequently Asked Questions about becoming a Harvest Partner

How are your products grown?

Our produce is grown using no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We control weeds mechanically and manually (by hand). We manage fertility through growing natural cover crops, mulching  and compost application. At this time, because of our small size, we are not certified organic, it is not economical for a farm our size.

What if I'm not home when the farm box is delivered?

Because all of our produce is locally grown and harvested within 24 hours of arriving at your home, it is best to make arrangements to have it delivered when you will be available. We will work with all of our Partners on the timing of deliveries and can leave the farm box in a shady spot or in a cooler in a carport. We do deliver on campus or offices. Farm boxes can also be picked up at The Martin Farmers Market between 2:00 and 4:30

Deliveries will be made on either Monday or Thursday.

What if I go on vacation?

Mother Nature waits for no one. If you are on vacation, your farm box produce will likely not keep. Please make arrangements to have your box delivered to a friend or family member; we are happy to do that. If you choose, we will also deliver your farm box to We Care Ministries in Martin while you are on vacation.

Hello!

We are excited to invite you to join us in the 2020 season of Hidden Hill Farm's CSA program.

We are back for our 9th year as a CSA provider in Weakley and surrounding Counties. Each season we plant our fields with a wide variety of produce and specialty crops. It is with the help of all of our CSA subscribers that make our small farm able to continue.

We have already gotten a great start in our heated greenhouse.  We have changed a few things around  this year and our Plants are responding very well. We are on schedule, despite the rain, to have a great season this year and hope that you will join us for all of the exciting plans we have been making.

We continue to be overjoyed by the enthusiasm and support we've received from our community here in Weakley and surrounding Counties. We are looking forward to being your farmers and are excited to invite you to participate in our 2020 season.

Happy Eating!

How the 2020 Season Will Work

Our goal is always to start our season as early as possible and run as late into winter as possible.
We normally start with fresh Asparagus in early to mid April.

We will deliver our weekly boxes of freshly harvested, locally grown produce either on a Monday or Wednesday. Please specify your preferred day on your enrollment form.
Each week, we'll deliver straight to your office, home or a designated pickup location of your choice. We have a pickup location in Dresden and can work with you for other pickup locations if necessary.

The contents of the farm box will vary each week and on average will feed 2 to 3 people. Some weeks will be more abundant than others depending on the season.
For example, early in the season the farm box will be smaller than during the peak of harvest.  Some produce, like different varieties of  tomatoes or peppers, will appear in your farm box frequently while others will appear briefly or even only once.
Each year is different and crops do sometimes fail. Temperatures (hot or cold), hail, winds and excessive rainfall or drought can all cause crop failure.  The majority of our crops will be irrigated, however nothing in life is certain. Becoming a Harvest Partner means experiencing the rewards of a bumper crop and the risk of crop failure with your farmer.

We run about a 25 week season taking a mid season break around early to mid August and returning in mid September while we prep and plant our fall crops. This is subject to change and to be used as a general guide.

Some crops like Asparagus start coming in around mid March to mid April along with other possibilities. Be sure to sign up early so you can start receiving those early harvests!

We understand some Harvest Partners do not check email frequently and to solve for that there will be an option on the enrollment form to receive paper copies of our newsletter or to go paperless.

Every season is different and has its own ups and downs I hope you will consider spending it with us!

We encourage you to let us know if there is anything you would like us to try growing in addition to our general variety list that you can find linked in the next below. If there is a specific variety you are looking for please ask and we will research and try growing it
