Al Bee
rs, Sr. was born into a Michigan minister's family, youngest of three children in 1934.
Al's brother was a pastor, also. Al graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in ROTC and entered the USAF. He attended pilot training and flew jets his entire
20 year career, retiring as
Lieutenant Colonel. He served 2 combat tours in Southeast Asia, flying 139 combat missions with many military awards. He married Diane Burson in 1960 and they have two sons and 17 grandchildren.
After retiring from USAF in 1977, he felt called of God to go to Seminary and faithfully served in the local church for 17 years.
Al and Diane retired from the ministry in 1997 and moved to Nicholasville, KY to be near younger son, Al Jr., and his family.
Al enjoyed everything he did in life. He said he was always in the right place at the right time.
He said he had done everything you could do in an airplane except die. He was also jump
qualified. He was an avid reader and interested in every kind of history. He loved to ski, play the guitar, and sing folk songs. Al was not one of those guys you could meet and forget. Although he lived a very exciting life. He said the most exciting thing he did was lead somebody to the Lord. What a privilege it was to be his wife. He was the most Christ-like person
I ever knew because he always forgave regardless of the circumstances.
