Come celebrate Sukkot with good food, good company, and a warm welcome to the newest members of our community! Bring a favorite dish to share, gather with friends old and new, and enjoy a festive evening together in the sukkah.

Jewels of Elul

This little “jewel” is from musician and songwriter, Craig Taubman’s website/blog: Jewels of Elul. It’s a site that I like visiting at this time of year (the Hebrew month of Elul) to draw inspiration and prepare for the New Year. Indeed, it’s that time, when we are preparing ourselves to ask the Judge of Judges not to judge us…to be merciful and compassionate. So, it struck me that Taubman’s own reflections remind us not to judge. 

I think that for human beings, “judging” may be an innate condition; we “see” and we think we “know.” But as we come to the High Holy Days, when we plead to G*d to be merciful in judgment of us, may we too be merciful in our judgment of others and extend the same curiosity, compassion and listening that we would like bestowed upon ourselves.
