Sugar Maple Tree Update

As you arrived on campus today you might have noticed a tree missing from the top of the hill, on the corner of the Crawford Parking Lot.

After a few years of trying to treat the diseased tree, it was concluded that it would not recover and needed to be taken down.

This spring, a new tree will be planted.

We discussed this with the students at the Community Gathering on Friday so they would be aware before coming on campus and noticing it gone.

Pictures from Fall 2020 - the last year we were able to enjoy her beautiful fall leaves.

Jazzercise Class

Join us this Thursday and get your dance on at a free Jazzercise class in the HMS gym on Thursday, February 23, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. All are welcome! We will grab a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant after class is over. Click here to register to attend.

Who Wants A Free Tree?

Remember to register online by February 28 to receive a free tree (6-12 inches in size.) Please only register if you intend to plant and care for the tree, as we don’t want to waste these valuable resources. Trees will be delivered to HMS and we will arrange to send them home with your child(ren) around Earth Day (April 22.) Planting and care instructions, as well as species information will be emailed a few days prior to the trees arriving. If you have more questions, please check out the Parent FAQs or email Ms. Saiz at [email protected].

Re-Enrollment Contracts

Re-enrollment contracts are posted on the portal. Your child’s enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year will be secured by way of completion of the online re-enrollment form and non-refundable tuition deposit. We have a high application volume for next school year, so it is important for current families to complete this process in a timely manner to ensure space availability. Please reach out to Laura Nicholson with any questions about the re-enrollment process.

Spring Conferences

Spring Conference Scheduling:

Spring Conferences are from March 8-10. Signup links for conferences were sent out in an email to all families on Monday, February 20. You have one week to sign up as the links are scheduled to close on Monday, February 27th at 5:00 p.m.

Lower Years: Conferences will be available for grades Pre-K through 5th beginning on Thursday, March 9 and Friday, March 10. Lower Years students will not have classes on Thursday and Friday.

Middle Years: Conferences will be available for grades 6-8 beginning on Wednesday, March 8 – Friday, March 10.

Middle Years students will not have classes Wednesday-Friday.

Conference Location: It is important to connect with teachers within the learning environment. While our preference is that you have your conference in person, we know that this may not be feasible or comfortable for everyone, so we are also offering a virtual option. You will be able to select which option you would like when you sign up for conferences.

Conference Time Childcare: Click here for childcare information and the registration link.

Book Fair

Book Fair is Back! Shop in person or virtually March 8 - 10!

Once again we are partnering with Little Shop of Stories to bring you new books, old favorites, cool non-fiction, and activity books. Proceeds will be used to purchase new books for the HMS library.

Shop in person by visiting the library when you are on campus for student conferences to purchase books on the spot.

Check back soon for a link to shop online. Books will be delivered to your child's classroom within two weeks of purchase.

Encourage a love of reading, support a local business, and grow our school library!

Raising Responsible Digital Citizens

Parenting children and teenagers comes with many challenges. Setting age-appropriate limitations on technology, screen time, and internet usage is one of the specific challenges that many families face.

Common Sense Media is an excellent resource for information about age-appropriate games, movies, screen time, social media, and computer usage. This website ranks movies, TV shows, books, and other media so that parents can feel confident in the entertainment choices they make for their children.

If you have any specific concerns or would like extra resources for leading your family through the process of raising a responsible digital citizen, please contact Shannon or Mary.

8th Grade Yearbook Ads

Hello 8th Grade Families,

You can purchase a portion of a yearbook page to recognize and honor your 8th grade student. These ads appear in a special section of the yearbook celebrating the students who are finishing 8th grade. While they are called “ads” by the yearbook company, these pages are only advertising your amazing student! Families upload photos to the yearbook website and use the ad creation tool to add text and design elements. These photos and memories do not have to be school related. You can celebrate vacations, sports, camps, holidays – any event that you would like to include to celebrate your child.

8th Grade Recognition Ads

  • Are not required
  • Will appear in every HMS student’s yearbook at the end of the book
  • Cost $55 for a ¼ page ad and $95 for a ½ page ad
  • Must be completed by families by March 31. Any ad that is not finished at this time will not be included in the yearbook.

Getting Started:

  1. Go to www.treering.com/validate
  2. Have an account already? Login!

Need to set up an account?

  • Enter the HMS passcode:

  • Click Buy the Yearbook Ad button and follow the steps.

FAQ

  • Does everyone in 8th grade purchase an ad?

Most families do, but not all families participate.

  • Can I buy more than one ad?

Each 8th grade student can only have one yearbook ad

  • Can my student help design the ad or does it have to be a secret?

An adult must purchase and approve the ad, but you can have your student help with the design

  • I already am creating a free Custom Page spread for my student’s yearbook. Is this the same thing?

No. They are different pages and your student can have both! Custom pages only appear in your students copy of the yearbook. Recognition ads are printed in every yearbook.

Please email Kim Platnick with any questions.
