High Minded 5/18/25

1 Tim 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

BE NOT HIGH MINDED!!!

Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

Pastor Doug, what does the Bible mean when it commands US, (me AND you!) to be “NOT high minded!!!???”

I am surrounded by sick and dying people....mostly, my age!!!!!

Nightly I go to bed not knowing if and what may occur while I try to sleep.

In spite of all attempts and efforts to keep myself alive, healthy and well, father time marches on-I, too, am getting old.

In my mind and heart I am strong and courageous but my physical me is the reality-AMEN!!??

Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

I try to eat right, take a medication to lose weight, exercise regularly, PRAY and read my Bible, pay my tithes faithfully, preach the Gospel, be a good husband and father, grandfather and great-great father, but..............

I AM getting older-PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Last week I woke up, (PRAISE THE LORD FOR AWAKENING AGAIN!), and immediately noticed what I thought was a hair or clump of hair in my left eye-SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING!!!

I reached up to clear the supposed hair and it was still there. I went to the sink and washed my eye out and yet it remained-I WAS HORRIFIED!!!

I instantly feared the worst-A STROKE?????? SMILE......

It was early but my optometrist happily is a real personal friend so I called her and gave her my story. She helped calm my nerves and saved me a trip to the ER as she explained to me it was a common ailment of many OLDER folk-she termed it a “FLOATER.”

She further advised me that it was a quite common ailment and that she, herself, had experienced and is experiencing FLOATERS even today.

BUT, my mind screamed “NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I am still healthy and strong!!! I have to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT ME, LORD!!!????

BUT, beloved, bad stuff does indeed happen to “good” folk. NOBODY is immune from sickness and trouble-NOBODY!!

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

NOBODY. NONE OF US leave this world unscathed!!!! The mere fact of the PRIVILEGE of arriving at an older age includes the troubles and trials of BEING old age!! AMEN!!??

As an OLD grandfather I also had the JOY and privilege of attending my lovely granddaughter's high school graduation this week. I sat and listened to the keynote speakers wise words of encouragement for the young graduates and was privileged to be among the young people as they embarked on their life's journeys-How well do I remember those blissful days.

WE thought we were gonna' change the world-AMEN!!??

TODAY, if you are able to SEE and read this, BE THANKFUL!! The ONLY reason WE can SEE and read, AND PRAY and live is WE “STANDEST BY FAITH!!!”
