MAY/JUNE 2020 NEWSLETTER

Hello!

As I write this, it’s Memorial Day Weekend, usually a fun, celebratory kick off to the summer! Unfortunately, with continued social distancing and lingering spring weather, many would agree it’s an anticlimactic start of the season, to say the least! All of us are experiencing very different times. With more time spent at home, we are more keenly aware of how we use our spaces — from traffic flow to wear and tear on our furniture. This month’s article compares Performance Fabrics — Sunbrella, Crypton, and Inside/Out. Read on to learn the uniqueness and suitability of each and how you might incorporate these fabrics in your own home.

Our COVID update: we're back to our regular office hours and scheduling in-home and in-studio appointments within state and county social distancing guidelines. For your and our safety, we wear masks on all appointments and respectfully ask our customers to do the same. As our vendors, workrooms and suppliers open as well, delivery delays are fewer. We're adapting to a new normal which gets a little easier each week.

Now through June 22nd there are two Hunter Douglas savings rebates running simultaneously. If you're in need of new shades for your home, now is the time to take advantage of the savings on several of the most popular styles! Hunter Douglas Duette Honeycomb shades or Vignette Modern Roman shades are great 'go to's' for privacy, light control and energy efficiency. Looking for privacy and UV protection but don't want to sacrifice the view, then Silhouette and Pirouette sheer shadings may be the perfect solution for your home.

Wishing you and your family health and happiness as you find creative ways to celebrate the summer season!

Kindest regards,

PERFORMANCE FABRICS
SUNBRELLA, CRYPTON & INSIDE/OUT
Each brand offers uniqueness and suitability.
Learn how you might incorporate these fabrics in your own home
Sunbrella Fabric from Thibaut
Sunbrella fabrics have long been known for their use outdoors from awnings, to boat covers, to patio and poolside cushions. Made from solution dyed acrylic, they are fade resistant, water repellant, mildew resistant and bleach cleanable.
Perennials Fabric — Sew Beautiful project
Once limited in pattern and canvas like textures, Sunbrella uped it’s game with the introduction of fabrics with a softer hand and a broader collection of patterns and textures making them desirable for indoor use. Still we gravitate to Sunbrella fabrics for their light fastness, using them in sunlit rooms like patios and sunrooms.
Crypton is another high performance upholstery fabric. It comes in a wide array of colors and textures, is durable, soft, and stain repellant, making it a winner for indoor high use upholstery. The chaise and sofa in our masthead picture are both upholstered in Crypton fabrics from Greenhouse Fabrics.

Most notable with Crypton fabrics is how liquid spills bead rather than absorb into the fabric fibers. Spills can be easily blotted up and overall the fabric can be thoroughly cleaned with a simple solution of a mild detergent and water. A real winner for a family and pet friendly fabric!
Crypton
Inside/Out from Thibaut
Inside/Out Relatively new on the market is what I refer to as the hybrid of performance fabrics — Inside/Out. Just as the name infers, this high performance fabric is suitable for use indoors or outdoors. It’s durable (>50,000 double rubs), stain resistant, and fade resistant.
Inside/Out from Thibaut
It combines the light fastness of a Sunbrella with the durability and stain repellant properties of a Crypton. With a soft hand and stylish patterns, it’s style and function combined!
“With home automation becoming readily accessible, requests for motorized treatments are far more common... Planning for and integrating window coverings, automated or manual, early on in the design stages makes for a more functional and aesthetically pleasing treatment.” Excerpt from the Sew Beautiful feature on page 27 of the Faces of Annapolis, Guide to Leading Professionals 2020, issue of Annapolis Home Magazine.
