Dear Student Affairs Educators,

Welcome to the first edition this year of the Student Affairs quarterly newsletter! The newsletter provides an important opportunity for us to stay connected with the many events, opportunities, and news happening within our organization in the field of Student Affairs and more broadly, on campus.

As we kick off this newsletter, I want to express my gratitude for your continued dedication and for the myriad ways each of you contribute to our organization. I look forward to having this platform to share more about our work, accomplishments, and impact.

In the spirit of gratitude and recognition, I want to share some special announcements regarding changes to our leadership team over the past year. Last month, I made the announcement regarding the promotions of Mick Deluca and Suzanne Seplow to Associate Vice Chancellors and Jasmine JS Rush as the Dean of Students. Many of you may have also had the opportunity to meet Assistant Vice Chancellors – Frank Wada, AVC of Academic Partnerships, and Kayleigh MacPherson, AVC of Administration, who both started in their roles with Student Affairs within this past year.

Furthermore, just a few weeks ago, Dervla McDonnell joined UCLA as Student Affairs' Director of Development; this past year, we also welcomed Carina Salazar into the role of Executive Director for Career and Immersive Experiences, Danielle Acheampong as our new Director of Student Affairs Information & Research Office (SAIRO), and finally Andrew James-McClure as the Director of the Bruin Resource Center. I am also delighted to share that Yogini Purohit has been recently named Senior Executive Director of HR and Finance.

In addition to those recently taking on more senior roles in Student Affairs, we are fortunate to have welcomed new staff educators over the past two years. I unfortunately cannot name all of our new educators, but their passion, dedication and experience have been greatly felt by our students and campus community during their tenure. I hope that you will join me in congratulating all of our recently hired Student Affairs Educators!

This newsletter is just one of many ways we are looking to include more staff voices and perspective in our organization and work. To that end, we have included a form at the bottom of the newsletter where you can provide feedback, suggestions, or submit content to be considered for a future edition.

To continue to build a thriving and connected student community, we must also cultivate a thriving and connected community amongst ourselves. Here’s to many more newsletters filled with inspiration, insights, and positive connection.

Thank you and Go Bruins!
