Foundation Complete!

Construction on the new high school building for St. Luke's Episcopal School in Martel is underway. We've completed the foundation. In the photo above you can see the footprint for the four classrooms in the foreground. The recently completed kindergarten building is in the background, and the latrine is further behind to the left.

We are making progress on our fundraising!

I am pleased to report that thirteen people gave a total of $11,642.00!

That is 23% of our goal - thank you so much for your generosity!

In our May email update, the New York Haiti Project Board of Directors proposed a fundraising goal of $50,000.00.

This money will go toward completing the high school classroom building. This will allow us to expand the school to 10th grade in September.

If 150 people each give $250.00, we will reach the goal.

Happy Students

After 13 years of serving the Haitian Church of the Good Samaritan, Bishop Matt Heyd has asked me to join his staff as the Canon for Global and Local Organizing, and Regional Canon for Westchester and Putnam Counties. I start the new position September 1st after a six week sabbatical.

I will continue serving as director of the New York Haiti Project.

Language Arts Class

On Pentecost I visited Trinity Church in New Rochelle. This parish is a merger of the three New Rochelle Episcopal parishes, and they are thriving. Thank you Jennie Talley and Trinity, for your hospitality and your generosity.

4. St. Luke's Episcopal School in Martel was recently rated #2 among schools in the region by the Haitian Department of Education.
5. Education is highly valued by the Haitian people. It is one of the few ways that we can make a lasting difference in Haiti.
6. Our board of directors insists on complete financial transparency. We publish our financial report on our website.
7. The New York Haiti Project is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Your donation is 100% tax deductible.
8. Martel has become a safe haven for families fleeing the violence of the capital, and St. Luke's Episcopal School offers their children a quality education. We have 246 students in grades K through 9.
