GENERAL INFORMATION

DIGITAL SAT AND ACT INFORMATION

The SAT and ACT have moved to a digital format, called DSAT and DACT. Many of our students have taken their school-issued laptops to the testing site and encountered issues with the ACT and SAT's WiFi configuration that prevented them from taking the exam. Therefore, we strongly discourage students from bringing their LNC-issued laptop to take the SAT or ACT.

  • For the SAT students may either:
  • Request a laptop for test-taking purposes from the DSAT administrators ahead of time. Follow this link for more information.
  • Bring a personal laptop with them to take the test.
  • The ACT gives students the option of taking the test on paper or online (if the online version is offered at your testing location) when they register. If you choose to take the DACT make sure you select a testing date/location that provides devices for examinees on test day. Here is a link with more information about the ACT.

NACAC VIRTUAL COLLEGE FAIR

Students are invited to the NACAC Virtual College Fair happening on Sunday, November 9 from 1:00 to 6:00pm ET. The virtual fair provides a wonderful chance to connect with hundreds of colleges and universities, all from the comfort of your home. Plus, it is 100 percent free.

TAKE TIME TO RELAX AND REFRESH ON FRIDAYS!

The Counseling Team is excited to offer Guided Meditation Sessions for students every Friday during Knight Time. These sessions provide a calm and welcoming space for students to relax, recharge, and practice mindfulness. Our goal is to help students develop healthy coping strategies and create time in their week for peace and reflection.

No prior experience is needed, and all students are welcome to participate. Students who are interested can sign up through FlexiSched.

TEST PREP TIPS

Exam time is around the corner and it’s never too early to start preparing.

🧠 Before the Test

  • Study Strategically
  • Focus on understanding concepts, not just memorizing facts.
  • Don’t cram. Prepare with tutoring and study sessions teachers offer.

  • Get Organized
  • Know what’s on the test, how it’s formatted, and how much time you’ll have.
  • Bring all required materials: pencils, calculator, ID, etc.

  • Sleep and Eat Well
  • Get 7–8 hours of sleep the night before.
  • Eat a balanced meal with protein and complex carbs for steady energy.

  • Arrive Early & Stay calm
  • Practice deep breathing or short meditation to reduce anxiety.
  • Give yourself time to be early, get seated, and relax before the start of testing.

📝 During the Test

  • Listen to instructions & preview the test first.
  • Quickly scan all sections to see how it’s structured.
  • Budget your time based on question weight or difficulty.

  • Start with what you know. Do a Brain Dump.
  • Answer easy questions first to build confidence and secure points.
  • Take a moment to write down all the information you need on a scrap paper before you get started like formulas, data, or facts.

  • Read carefully
  • Watch for keywords like not, except, best, or most likely.
  • If something seems tricky, re-read slowly.

  • Use process of elimination
  • Cross out clearly wrong options.
  • When guessing, eliminate as many as possible first.

  • Manage your time; answer questions you know and come back to ones you skipped.
  • Don’t spend too long stuck on one question.
  • Leave a few minutes at the end to review your answers.

  • Double-check your work
  • Make sure all questions are answered.
  • Verify math, units, and bubbling on multiple-choice sheets.

😌 After the Test

  • Don’t dwell on mistakes — focus on what’s next.
  • Review results when you get them back: note patterns in what you missed.
  • Adjust your study plan for next time.

JUNIOR AND SENIOR INFORMATION

11th-12th APPRENTICESHIP CHARLOTTE

Apprenticeships combine coursework with paid, on-the-job training at one company over one to four years. Central Piedmont is the educational partner of many apprenticeship programs. Occupations range from healthcare to manufacturing.

There are three components to a registered apprenticeship: on-the-job training, a progressive wage scale, and education. Workplace Learning can help connect you. Also, in some cases, you can get your Central Piedmont tuition and fees covered.
