October 2025

Dear Freshmen Parents,

As we step into the month of October, we hope your student is settling into the rhythm of high school and finding their confidence as a 9th grader. It's been a pleasure getting to know our freshmen as they begin this exciting journey!

Individual meetings with 9th grade students will continue throughout the month of October. These one-on-one check-ins are a great opportunity for students to ask questions, set goals, and explore their interests.

Please encourage your student to check their school email daily so they don’t miss their meeting invitation or other important updates from the counseling office.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions at atatman@lncharter.org.

WELLNESS TIP OF THE MONTH: BUILDING RESILIENCE

Resilience — the ability to bounce back from challenges — is one of the most valuable skills a 9th grader can develop. As a parent, you can help build this skill by:

  • Encouraging your teen to solve problems rather than immediately stepping in
  • Modeling calm, thoughtful responses to stress
  • Praising effort and persistence, not just results

Try this conversation starter:

“What’s one challenge you faced this week, and what did you learn from it?”

Moments like these help students reframe setbacks as learning opportunities and build confidence in their ability to grow.

ST. JUDE LEADERSHIP SOCIETY

Join a group of high-performing high school students who share a passion for leadership, service and community in supporting the kids of St. Jude. The SJLS program empowers high school students to:

  • Develop leadership skills through guided curriculum and mentorship.
  • Engage in meaningful service and fundraising.
  • Build lasting connections with peers and professionals.

Applications for the 2025 cohort are now open, and they are eager to connect with LNC students who might be a great fit.

For more information and to join, go to the St. Jude Leadership Society website.
