"Find Your Voice"
September 14, 2018
Welcome back to High School Highlights; a weekly wrap-up of events, designed especially for high school parents and students at Summit Academy, to help keep you in the know. We enjoyed spending time with those parents who came to visit our classes on Back to School Night Thursday! If you were not able to make it and would like a copy of a particular class syllabus, please email individual teachers with requests.
On next week's calendar:

  • Friday : Sr. Internships/intern visits

Student Spotlight: Zach
Zach is a Sophomore, who actively participates in class discussions in all of his classes and is always positive and enthusiastic. He has shown growth this year by completing his work independently and on time! When complimented on this recently he simply stated, "I just try my best!" If you spend much time with Zach, you will also find out he has a great sense of humor and can tell some really funny jokes!

Thanks for being such a special part of Summit Academy High School, Zach!

Caring Thoughts

Continued wishes for recovery to Senior, Dianne, who continues to recover from surgery at home. We miss you and hope that you will be able to join us back at school again soon!
Student ID's

To ensure the safety of our students, Summit Academy will be providing a break-away lanyard with each student ID, free of charge, when the ID's come in.

  • Friday interns are getting very good feedback, and intern visits will start next Friday.
Mrs. Hoagland
We had a busy week ~ STAR testing and school pictures! I really enjoyed being with you all at Open House. Sorry for losing my voice 6th period.
  • Math: This week was all about noticing patterns around us and in numbers. Next week we will dig deeply into fractions...starting off with the recognition of equivalent ones.
  • Literacy: Last week, we practiced reading and comprehension skills, learning about the first woman to run for President of the US. We will continue our study of the parts of speech and identifying them in sentences. Next week, we will be learning the proper methods for writing a friendly letter.. Students will choose someone to whom to write.
  • Health: So good to have the students back from retreat! We have been looking at how to balance the good and bad effects of stress and having wonderful conversations. Next, we will look at the power of emotions and their effect on relationships.
  • Practical Living: Individual jobs, recycling team and 'dish of the week' by Emily were all a success. We will be starting an outdoor garden soon, and, if you have any extra garden tools, we would love to borrow them.
  • Physical Science: This week we focused on the measurement of mass using balance scales and metric weights. Next week we will compare the volume of an object with the weight of another. Test next week on the information we have covered. They will have most of the week to prepare for it. Homework will be given on Tuesday and Thursday of each week.
Ms. Miller
  • Math: We will continue our work with fractions via real-work application as we make cookies and play-doh.
  • Literacy: We will read and discuss excerpts from the book "Heroes, Gods, and Monsters of the Greek Myths," by Bernard Evslin.
  • Spanish 1 and Spanish 2: Tomorrow is the start of Hispanic Heritage month, so both Spanish classes will focus on spanish speaking countries and their rich and diverse cultures.
  • Senior Seminar: We will be finishing our 500 piece jigsaw puzzles, and will be assembling shelves for a nearby church.

Have a great weekend!
As always, please let us know if there is anything we can do for you!
