High School Registration Training Follow Up

Dear Principal and Administrators,

We're pleased to share follow up materials from last week's High School Registration Training. Thank you to the many schools who attended.

Some important points from the presentation:

  • If a school moves, they must complete a BEDS Change of Address form and inform SED so that the high school registration information is updated.

  • A school cannot order and administer Regents if they are not registered. They will need to work with another registered school to order and administer the exams.

  • Schools that are currently in pending registration status should complete their registration as soon as possible. In the future, schools that are pending will need to start over after a year.

  • Educational hours: ensure that over the course of the week and year the actual course hours are similar to public schools as specified in the application.

  • Art, music and gym credits - school plays, shabbatons, park times, and other events can be included provided that:
  • There is instruction happening
  • Attendance is taken and it is graded
  • It is required and not extra-curricular
  • Please include those activities in the school schedule.

  • Library: schools without a physical library can rely on a nearby public library or a digital library available on devices.

  • Lab carts can be used in lieu of a lab room, as long as there is a sink in close proximity and adequate ventilation (in addition to the regular HVAC)
