High Schoolers Kick Off Bootcamp to 
Hone Career Skills 
  
Boulder, Colorado (April 9, 2019): M ore than 60 high school students from the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County and partner organizations will hone their skills in networking, i nterviewing, and resume writing to better connect to the job market.
 
The lessons and workshops, led by Workforce Boulder County, are part of "I Have A Dream's" annual 2-Day Career Readiness Bootcamp, which takes place this Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, at the University of Colorado-Boulder's Engineering School.  
 
Day 1 features workshops on resume writing, interview skills, student expectations, and more. Students will also create a LinkedIn profile to better connect with potential employers. Day 2 is full of mock interviews, where students will flex and build their interviewing skills with over 30 community volunteers who will serve as mock interviewers. During the lunch hour, students will take professional headshots to use for networking.
 
By the camp's end, students will have a complet ed resume, interview experience including short answer/essay responses for interviewers, and information about potential local internship positions.
 
With this experience, these high schoolers will be able to apply for paid summer internships at local businesses and organizations, including Bould er Housing Partners, City of Boulder, Clinica Campesina, Namaste Solar, and multiple departments at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

The Career Readiness Bootcamp is part of "I Have A Dream's" larger goal to help students from low-income communities in Boulder County achieve their dreams of college and meaningful careers. This program is also part of the Dream Big Initiative, a collaborative of local nonprofits, school distric ts, government department s and more, which aims to close the achievement gap in Boulder County by 2040.

About the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County
Since 1990, the award-winning "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County (IHDF) has assisted 1,000 children from low-income communities achieve their dreams of college  by providing long-term personal and academic support, tutoring, mentoring and four-year tuition-assistance scholarships to each graduating student. The program follows the national model established in New York in 1981 by founder Eugene Lang. The organization sponsors entire groups of students from elementary schools, or from low-income housing sites, and works with these children and their families through high school graduation and into post-high school education. Currently, there are 12 active "I Have A Dream" classes in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts. IHDF  has doubled expected graduation rates for those in its program and has awarded over $3 million in scholarships to date. Learn more...
