Who We Are
The mission of Higher Education to NC Government (Ed2NC) Careers is to bring together leaders in state government and higher education to help create a pipeline of talent by connecting students and recent graduates with careers in state government.

A collaborative effort between the NC Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) and the NC Office of Strategic Partnerships (OSP), Ed2NC is committed to helping match qualified talent with competitive jobs at state government agencies.

HBCU/MIHE Summer Internship Program
The Historically Black Colleges/Universities (HBCU) & Minority Institutions of Higher Education (MIHE) Internship is a paid, 10-week program designed to expose, engage and educate students by giving them tangible, real-world experience with various divisions within the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. DNCR has partnered with North Carolina’s HBCUs and MIHEs to provide this opportunity to rising juniors, seniors, and graduate students. Based on a 40-hour workweek, essential components of the program include professional development, leadership training, and networking opportunities.

Summer Engineering Assistants Program

The Summer Engineering Assistants Program offers paid internships for eligible students majoring in engineering.​ Participants gain valuable experience that counts toward eligibility for permanent employment with the NC Department of Transportation. 
NCDEQ Launches NEW
Student Training Experience Program (STEP) Initiative
Application Opens March 2022
The NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is excited to announce the Student Training Experience Program (STEP) Initiative! The program seeks talented and motivated students to apply for paid summer work opportunities within DEQ. Students will gain practical, hands-on experience and learn more about DEQ’s role in protecting the environment. The application deadline, start date, and pay rate will be updated on DEQ's website in March.

The State of North Carolina offers a customized job alert system that will send a notification via email when a position matching students' interests/skills becomes available. Click here to choose from over one hundred areas of interest to receive an email notification.
What does Gen Z want out of work?
Gianna Prudente, Associate News Editor at LinkedIn, writes that "Gen Z is the youngest generation in the workforce and they’re already rewriting the rules. From how they search for their next opportunities to their openness about “taboo” topics at work, these early-career professionals aren’t afraid to do things differently." 

Their willingness to go against the norm is seen in what they want out of their jobs and what they look for in prospective employers. While older generations highly value compensation and benefits, Gen Zers are prioritizing organizational values and flexibility. Though pay and related factors are still important, they are only one part of the package. Read the full article.

In celebration of Black History Month, Ed2NC will spotlights North Carolina Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). North Carolina has 12 HBCUs, including the oldest in the South, Raleigh's Shaw University, founded in 1865, and North Carolina's newest HBCU, North Carolina Central University, founded in 1910 in Durham. Ten of these schools continue to operate today:
 
 
North Carolina's HBCUs generate $1.7 billion in total economic impact in their communities and beyond, creating substantial economic returns year after year. The state's workforce is bolstered by a steady supply of highly trained and success oriented HBCU graduates.
