Worship This Sunday
This Sunday, October 10th, we will have our 9:00 am pavilion service and 10:30 am sanctuary service.

Is it here? Is it there? Where is it??? This Sunday’s text from the Gospel of Luke has Jesus telling his disciples where they can find the Kingdom of God. The good news for all of us is that it is everywhere! But, the question we must ask, how do we participate in the Kingdom of God in the here and now? Join us this Sunday as we explore this idea and we continue in our stewardship campaign.

Stewardship Season 2021
Our stewardship campaign this year will focus on Witnessing Change. Change is happening all around us. How does the Church respond to this change? How does Highland respond to this change? Where do we find hope in the midst of all of this change? From Sunday, October 3 to Sunday, October 17 we will look at three different text from the Gospels where Jesus talks about change. Our commitment Sunday will be October 17 and we hope that you and your family will think and pray upon what you can give to the church next year.

Daytime Circle Bible Study
Highland’s Daytime Circle will begin the new 2021-2022 PW Bible study in September: “What My Grandmothers Taught Me: Learning from the Women in Matthew’s Genealogy of Jesus”. The study is open to ALL circles, and the entire congregation! We will meet TODAY, October 7th. For more information, or to sign up, contact Diane Brown (865-323-7701 or dianebrowntn@gmail.com).
Fall Book Study
Tuesdays from Sept. 14-Oct. 19
This fall we will read the book Race in America as a church book study. As we have become a Matthew 25 congregation, one of the challenges is Dismantling Structural Racism and this book will be a great starting point to educate us.

There will be an in-person session in the morning (10:00-11:00 am) at the church and an evening (7:00 pm) session on Zoom.
Maryville College Homecoming Weekend
Maryville College will hold its Homecoming Weekend from October 22-24. We are happy to say that Highland will be the featured homecoming church! We will welcome any MC alum during the service and recognize students of past and present in our congregation. Follow this link to learn more about the events for that weekend.
Advent Journals
If anyone would like to get an Advent Journal that Columbia Theological Seminary will put together for this year, let Matthew know by October 13 so he can put in an order. These are made for no cost for churches who would like them.

Surveys for Church
Please find links to two different surveys to help Matthew in planning for the future.

Winter Worship- The first survey is for how and whether to continue the 9am worship service as the weather gets colder and worshipping in the pavilion will no longer be safe Winter Worship Survey.

Church Camping Trip- We are having talks of planning a churchwide camping trip for summer of 2022 at the Elkmont Group Campground in GSMNP. In order to pull this off, we need to reserve campsites soon and pick dates. Please take this survey if you are even slightly interested in something like this. Church Camping Trip Survey
