Highland Critical Access Home Repair Program

Two of the six Habitat for Humanity Critical Home Repair projects underway in the Highland community have now been completed, with the remaining homes scheduled to begin repairs this month or next. Thanks to the success of the Gaston Gala—which raised just over $200,000—four additional Highland homeowners will receive support for essential home repairs in the coming year. More information on the project timeline and next steps will be shared soon.

Upcoming Gardening Opportunities with

Gaston County Cooperative Extension

The Gaston County Cooperative Extension will host its Fruit Plant Sale in early 2026, with orders due January 27 and plant pick-up in mid-February. Available plants typically include blackberries, blueberries, figs, and more.

The Homesteading: Backyard Basics Conference will take place on January 24, 2026, at the Citizen Resource Center. Details for the main spring plant sale—usually held in April or May and featuring vegetables, flowers, and herbs—have not yet been announced. Community members are encouraged to visit gaston.ces.ncsu.edu or follow Gaston County Cooperative Extension on Facebook for updates.
