Mad for Plaid Campaign

Clements Foundation and La Fiesta launch $100,000 matching challenge during the holidays!

The Highland Park Education Foundation is excited to announce that the Clements Foundation and La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas have issued a generous $100,000 match to challenge the community to give. Every dollar donated to Mad for Plaid between now and January 8 will be DOUBLED, up to $100,000.

Mad for Plaid raises funds in support of HPISD's critical budget needs, and currently that critical need is raising the bar for teacher and staff salaries districtwide. Your donation will support the District in retaining and attracting top talent, and we hope you won’t miss the chance to have your gift doubled by giving today. Every gift, no matter the size, will help the Foundation gift $1.8 million to HPISD, which accounts for 3% of the total district salaries in 2024-2025. To learn more, tune in to our video.

Thank you to the Clements Foundation, established by Governor Bill Clements, HPHS Class of ’34, and La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas, for their continued generosity and passion in challenging our community to support our wonderful educators!

Double your gift by giving now here.

Lead for Tomorrow Endowment Campaign

One of the latest funds in the Lead for Tomorrow campaign comes from the Hegi family. Together, they have committed $1 million to establish the Hegi Family Education Excellence Fund.

Jan and Fred Hegi moved to the Park Cities in 1982 with sons Peter ’92 and Brian ’95. Both Jan and Fred came from rural Texas towns where supporting the community was instinctive. “My parents were great philanthropic role models,” recalled Fred. “My mother was recognized by the mayor of Tahoka, Texas, for 75 years of community service.” Education also mattered, as both Jan and her mother were teachers, as was Fred’s mother. Jan was especially moved by her mother’s work teaching choral music in Snyder, Texas, “Being a teacher who impacted students of all ages in our community brought tremendous joy to my mother.”

As the Hegi boys entered UP Elementary, their paths would eventually lead them to their future spouses. Peter encountered Amy (Davis) around the fifth grade but didn’t get serious until their sophomore year, “I asked her to slow dance with me at the Howdy Dance after the first home football game, and we’ve been together ever since.” Their youngest, Lila, is now a sophomore at HP, following sisters Kate ’18 and Mary Allison ’21.

Brian and Libby (Denton) graduated in 1995 but “did not know each other well, despite having similar friends” according to Brian. They didn’t spark until four years later, “Libby and I bumped into each other at a UT football game shortly after college, and the rest is history.” Their youngest, Katherine, is also a sophomore at HP, following siblings Hunter ’23 and Anna ’24.

Jan and Fred point to the future in explaining their family’s gift: “Our family created this fund to ensure future generations can benefit from our wonderful schools by attracting and retaining excellent teachers.” This is echoed by Peter, who serves on the HPEF board of directors, “We, as a community and Scottie Nation, need to band together to grow a university-style endowment to secure our legacy of academic excellence within HPISD.”
