Feels Good to Come Home

HPHS Homecoming 2022

Did you know the first homecoming for the high school was in the fall of 1956? A new tradition of having a homecoming began in 1956 and the first homecoming queen was crowned,

Miss Nany Jean Olds Rutledge '57.

Prior to that year, Ann Collins Binford '56 was the first and only football queen. There was not an official homecoming game or

homecoming court.

This year, HPHS Alumni near and far celebrated homecoming on Friday, October 22 at Highlander Stadium. We had many alumni in town celebrating their class reunions. The weekend was full of Scot pride!

A favorite tradition at halftime is honoring the football captains and homecoming queens who played and were crowned the fall

of their Senior year.

This year, we celebrated the HP Alumni from

50, 40, 30, 20 and 10 years ago!

A special thank you goes to the HP Cheer Booster Club and the very generous donors who supported this endeavor.

Susan Rhoads Library Dedication

Great educators make an impact on us in many ways. From classrooms to science labs, media rooms, and in the library, teachers invest in making a difference in the lives of students.

Susan Rhoads, a librarian at HPHS for 28 years, was the smiling face you saw when you walked in the doors. She knew your name and knew how to help you.

Susan passed away in 2020 and through the heroic efforts of Denise and Richard Bohac and the help of Jae Ellis, friends and family raised over $28,000 in Susan's memory to establish the Susan Rhoads HPHS Library Legacy Fund within the Tartan Endowment at the Foundation.

On October 20, members of the community joined together for the plaque dedication of the Susan Rhoads Reading Room.

Moments like this are a reminder of how special our community is!

Left to right: Susan's son, Brian Dubiski, and her husband, Robert Rhoads, join Denise and Richard Bohac and Lauren Holloway, Executive Director of the Highland Park Education Foundation, at the dedication on October 20.

Librarians Jenn Hampton, Jill Bellomy, and Leesa Cole join Denise Bohac, left, in front of the Susan Rhoads Reading Room.

Jae and Liza Ellis and Denise and Richard Bohac are grateful for the support of friends and family to raise the funds to dedicate the reading room in honor of an outstanding educator.

HPHS Alumni and Senior Football Players

Senior night for HPHS football players was on Friday, October 28 and it is tradition for dads who played for the blue and gold to join in on the fun!

Ten seniors and alumni gathered in their letter jackets for a photo opportunity to celebrate a football tradition.

Can you guess the alumni? Have fun guessing the father/son duos!

Reunions

October has been filled with HPHS Alumni gathering to celebrate milestone years with their classmates!

The HPHS Class of 1987 celebrated their 35th high school reunion the weekend of October 22. Classmates gathered at Redfield's Neighborhood Bar and Tavern on Saturday night. A good band with 80's hits played throughout the night and friends enjoyed catching up!

The HPHS Class of 1991 recently celebrated their 30th high school reunion. The weekend was planned to include the Friday night football game, dinner and drinks at Sammy's BBQ, and fun times at The Barley House on Saturday night!

The HPHS Class of 1992 were in full attendance at their 30th high school reunion that took place the weekend of October 28-29. Friday night was held at Chelsea Corner, and tours were held at the high school on Saturday, with a final party held at Smoky Rose later that evening!

The HPHS Class of 2002 knows how to organize a weekend of fun! Celebrating their 20th reunion, classmates gathered Friday night for a tailgate before the Scots game, enjoyed a family picnic and high school tours on Saturday, and later that evening, enjoyed catching up with classmates at The Rustic!

A big appreciation and thanks goes to the class officers and committees who planned wonderful and memorable weekends for classmates!
