Discovery Saturday Everyone knows the James Family Discovery Gardens and Highlands Center trails are a wonderful place to spend your time, but on Discovery Saturdays there will be more to visit, explore, and learn! This month learn all about Wildlife. Learn about Rattlesnakes, Abert Squirrels, mammal skulls and more.

Social Lives of Rattlesnakes

Although generally thought of as solitary, cold-blooded killers, snakes exhibit a variety of behaviors that we typically associate with animals such as birds and primates. Courtship, combat, and hanging out with friends are just a few behaviors captured by our remote, time-lapse cameras that you will get to see during this FREE ZOOM presentation by Melissa Amarello.

A SUMMER FAMILY FEST
Arthropalooza!
Sat, Aug 7, 9 am - 12 pm
Celebrate all things creepy and crawly at this Highlands Center favorite. Whether you find insects gross or fascinating, this festival is for you! Join the Dead Bug Society or Cicada Club to take a closer look at some members of this ancient group of animals. Sponsored by ORKIN.

Plein Air Painting Workshop

Celebrating Prescott’s
Diverse Landscapes
Join Gretchen Lopez and learn to compose and work with the landscape or zero in on a garden setting while working in oil, water mixable oil or acrylic.
  • Learn how to find the focal point in our composition, and simplify complex scenes.
  • Find out how important the start of a painting is, by looking for and using large shapes to pull a composition together.
Plein Air in the Garden
From August through October the Highlands Center will be hosting plein air artists in our Discovery Gardens on select Sundays.
Watch them work and learn what plein air painting is, how plein air artists are inspired by nature and view and purchase their artwork.

Shakespeare’s tale of Falstaff in love…in the old west!
