Coming in on the tail end of Purim, in the month of Adar, we know that Mishenichnas Adar, marbin be simcha, “when the month of Adar arrives, our joy increases. Purim (5884) was definitely a much needed happiness “booster” for us all! But as we come down from the celebratory high and return to our “regularly scheduled program”, many struggle to find that joy in the humdrum and the mundane. A quick Google search for “how to be happy” yields almost five billion results. Would it surprise anyone to learn one of the top recommendations is expressing gratitude?
Parashat Tzav describes many of the sacrifices to be offered. One such sacrifice is the Korban Todah, the Thanksgiving offering: “And if he brings it as a thanksgiving offering” (Vayikra 7:12). Rashi explains that this offering was to be brought by someone who had been delivered through a difficult situation. There are four categories of individuals who are obligated to offer a korban todah: one who has crossed the wilderness, one who has been imprisoned, one who had been dangerously ill, or one who has crossed the sea. As each of these situations could have cost the individual their life, it is appropriate that one should offer thanks to G-d for His mercy (Berachot 54b).

Each week High School Head of Judaic Studies, Rabbi Daniel Salter, poses a question for your shabbos table. Feel free to read and discuss our weekly question together with family and friends on Shabbat, and don't forget to tell Rabbi Salter your answers!
A Pinch of Salter this week is dedicated for the safety of our חיילים and the safe return of all the שבויים.
As we are well within the 30 days of Pesach preparations, it seems apropo that we discuss Hilchot Pesach this Shabbat.
Ben, a Jewish man with little to no religious affiliation, was married to Carole, who wasn't Jewish. During Passover one year, tragedy struck as Carole's father passed away, leaving his bread production business solely to her.
For many years Carole and Ben enjoyed the profits and benefits of the father’s business.
As time passed, Ben had a transformative journey of Chozer Be'Teshuva, embracing a more devout lifestyle and becoming more religious. Concurrently, Carole's interest in Judaism deepened, eventually leading her converting to Judaism at an orthodox Beth Din.
Then a dilemma arose because, during the year they inherited the bread factory from Carole's father, Ben, who has always been Jewish, inadvertently found himself in possession of Chametz during Pesach. This raised the question, “Was Ben obligated to dispose of the Chametz/bread, or could he retain it, given his lack of religious observance and the fact that his wife was not Jewish, at the time of inheritance?
Shabbat Shalom!
Looking forward to learning together with your families.
Please submit your responses to daniel.salter@ha-mtl.org.

THE EXPLOSIVE CHILD
Join The Wellness Institute on Thursday, April 11 at 8:00 PM for a webinar titled The Explosive Child with Dr. Ross Greene, PhD. During this live session, Dr. Greene will offer tools to guide children in using social media responsibly and in a healthy way. These tools provide collaborative and proactive solutions for out-of-control behavior. Often, children lack basic skills such as emotional regulation or frustration tolerance. The CPS model helps you identify which skills your child may be lacking and addresses problematic behavior at its core. You’ll learn how and why this model works and some techniques on how to address these behaviors and teach skills like flexibility, adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem-solving. Take advantage of this opportunity to hear from a nationally acclaimed author and speaker and gain skills on this vital topic.

If you can't join live, please register and you'll receive a recording within a few days of the webinar.
