September 19th to September 25th

FIGA

Sometimes it seems as though Sacred Heart has its own particular language, and the word “FIGA” is part of that unique SHSM dialect! This past Tuesday, we had our first FIGA - or, faculty-invited General Assembly - of the year. During the assembly, our prefects introduced themselves to and officially welcomed our students back to school with a fun “Sacred’s Got Talent” skit (the judges were firm, but fair!), and our Girls for the Cure team presented the women-related cancers fundraiser walk, done in collaboration with the

St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation and other girls’ schools in Montreal, and highlighted the fun and delicious activities that would be going on each day during the lunch hour!

This past week saw raffle tickets being sold, pink doughnuts and lemonade offered as sweet treats, and a pink flower sale to cap it off; next week, there’ll be a bake sale, pink bandana and pink bracelet sales, and finally, our pink free dress day - all in an effort to raise even more money to find a cure and honour the cancer survivors in our lives.

Each student will be creating their own individual fundraising page in the lead-up to our walk on September 29th, but we invite you to donate to the general Sacred Heart team by clicking below. Every penny helps so thank you for your support!

Sec V Retreat

Retreats offer teenagers many benefits that lead to personal and spiritual growth. Our Secondary 5 camping retreat takes students into nature and allows them to build bonds with each other and their school community that extends beyond the classroom. Students took part in team building exercises, peaceful nature hikes, and thoughtful campfire discussions that were heartfelt and brought them closer together as a grade. Secondary 5 students had the opportunity to reflect on the last few years of their lives at Sacred Heart, and think about how they'd like to see themselves grow moving forward.

The retreat focused on their connections with their classmates and how they could strengthen those relationships during their final year at Sacred Heart.

Calling on all Bakers!

We need YOUR help for Open House

The Parents' Guild traditionally organizes and hosts a delicious bake table at Open House. This year, we are back with the tradition and we need your assistance to provide baked/purchased bite-size snacks. We will be holding two open house events. We are asking parents to supply BITE SIZE sweet or savoury treats like:

· muffins, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, rice Krispy squares, fruit platters etc.

· bakery pizza, sandwiches, crudités, cheese, crackers, etc.

If you are able to provide juice boxes or water bottles, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Note this is NUT FREE environment.

Please notify the PG by clicking the button below of what you will be sending and kindly drop off your goods at the main entrance (portry) on Wednesday, Sept. 28th before noon!

I will provide baked/purchased goods

You would like to volunteer on either one of the Open House days? That is great!

Simply contact us by clicking the link below to let us know when you would like to volunteer.

Boarding Highlights

Sept. 10 & 11

This weekend our Boarders enjoyed all that this beautiful weather had to offer and we started to dig deeper into kindness and gratitude.

What is a better combination than a hot, sunny day, and an outdoor pool? Our boarders spent Saturday afternoon enjoying just that!

Sunday night during our house meeting we continued our discussion around self-care, kindness and gratitude. We topped off the weekend by writing thank you cards to someone who has helped make our first few weeks as Sacred Heart Boarders better and more successful.

Stay tuned for more small acts of gratitude from boarding as the year continues!

Not only a teacher, but

an Athlete too!

Not only is Sacred Heart known for our great athletics program but our teachers are incredible athletes too! This past weekend, in the blazing 32 degree heat, English teacher Ms. Ashley Thorup (she/her) completed the Ultra-Trail Harricana 80km race in 10h, 8 min - placing 3rd female and 19th overall of 244 participants! This might only be her second season competing in ultramarathons like this one, but - in true Sacred Heart spirit - she’s already looking to outdo herself, with plans to spend next summer training and competing in the Alps of France. Ms. Ashley’s sights are now set on completing the 125km UTHC course, and she will be fundraising for multiple sclerosis along the way.

What an excellent example of tenacity, discipline, and determination to our student body!

Congratulations, Ms. Ashley - our cross-country runners are sure to succeed with such a great coach!
