PROGRAM RECAP + PHOTOS
The Leaders in Energy (LE) Forum included speakers in the public and private sectors who provided valuable insight into green jobs and opportunities. Some of the speakers were looking for employees or giving hints as to methods that event attendees could use to find employment with employers who provide green jobs, including searching for information in job descriptions as opposed to specific job titles implying green job roles.
Other notable information discussed included: Maryland’s ambitious plans for renewable energy (50% by 2030), Washington DC's commitment to be carbon-neutral and climate resilient by 2050, links between green jobs and K-12 education, updated composting and recycling strategies, micro transit, food waste, value of networking (via organizations like Leaders in Energy and others), using LinkedIn as a job searching tool, organizations which provide green job finding assistance, and fun catch phrases from the Panel 2 speakers to stay motivated during the job search. These included: Do good, do it well,” “Determination is the key,” “Finding inspiration and working for your passion” and “Use LinkedIn.”
We would like to thank the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments for hosting our event along with our food sponsors, Wegmans and WethePizza and media sponsor, FilmBison Media.
We greatly appreciated the participation of our exhibitors, speakers, instructors and volunteers. A special thanks to Linda Mansdorf, LE Volunteer Coordinator, and all of our volunteers who contributed their time to make this great event happen! Thanks to John Gaffigan, LE Director of Membership and Sponsorship, and his Deputy, Leo Perez, on our Exhibitor Team. Thanks to Xavier Vergara and Miriam Aczel for the event reporting.
