When Beijing sidelined Jack Ma, China’s most prominent entrepreneur, by aiming to unwind his business in 2020, it sent an unmistakable message that no company was above the Chinese Communist Party.
This past Monday, China’s top leader, Xi Jinping, tried a different approach, meeting with tech titans including the Alibaba co-founder who has largely kept
out of the public eye since a government crackdown in 2020.
The heads of the electronics companies Huawei and Xiaomi, battery maker CATL and electric vehicle giant BYD were among the business leaders who applauded and took notes at the meeting.
