Highlights of the 111th Meeting

The 111th stated meeting of Presbytery of the James was held virtually on June 14. A small contingent of commissioners participated in person at Westminster Church (Richmond) to test a hybrid setup for the future. We appreciate the support of their team in making this possible.

Rev. Keli Shipley Cooper, candidates Jay Morgan and Rachel Sutphin, and ruling elder Kenna Payne led the presbytery in worship. Cindy Corell, PC(USA) mission co-worker serving Haiti, delivered the message.

The presbytery approved Kelley Connelly, Jay Morgan, and Rachel Sutphin for ordination to ministry of the Word and Sacrament. The body also received inquirer Robbie D’Orazio as a candidate for ministry. Congratulations to you all.

Ruling Elder Needed to Serve as Vice Moderator

The Committee on Nominations is seeking ruling elders open to serving as vice moderator of the presbytery in 2023 and as moderator in 2024. Ideal candidates are those who enjoy conducting meetings, speaking in public, and learning new things. If you are a ruling elder who is being called by the Holy Spirit to lead the Church in this way, please apply. The committee appreciates minsters' help in encouraging ruling elders to consider this opportunity. For more information, contact committee moderator Walter Canter.

Summer Camp Underway at Camp Hanover

Campers checked into Camp Hanover June 19 for the first summer session of 2022. Counselors arrived a few weeks earlier, spending time learning about the property and planning programs and activities. On June 12, the Board of Directors commissioned the staff with a service led by Rev. Kate Fiedler (Second Church, Richmond). Rev. Adam Bowling (First United Church, Dale City) and Rev. Brint Pratt Keyes (Tuckahoe Church) served communion. Kate reminded staff that God called them here to create the beloved community and to help campers feel God’s love in this special place.
