New Pictou County Coast Badge


Hike Nova Scotia, the Town of Pictou and the Municipality of Pictou County launched the new Pictou County Coast badge as part of the Hiker Challenge. The badge costs $5 for Hike NS paid members and $7.50 for non-members. It challenges you to hike a total of 25 km along certain coastal trails and beach walks within a year. Learn more here.

New Member Benefit: Mountain Equipment Company, Halifax


If you're a paid Hike NS member, you get some pretty sweet perks, such as discounts on Hike NS events and courses and discounts at various businesses.

We are happy to announce Mountain Equipment Company as a new member benefit partner. Hike NS members receive a 15% discount with proof of membership on all full price products and clearance products, with some exceptions as noted: gift cards, bulk orders, limited time deals, online purchases, and services: rentals, repairs, bike or ski services. Discount cannot be applied to prior purchases or combined with other discounts or offers, such as package discounts, price matching or staff discount. Receive a $1.00 off voucher for indoor parking at MetroPark. Offer is only valid in-store at the Halifax MEC location: 1550 Granville Street, Halifax.

Call for Winter Guided Hikes & Walks

Deadline: December 10


Hike Nova Scotia invites groups across NS to partner with it on delivering guided hike, walk or snowshoe events in winter 2024. Hike NS will help promote events and provide a how-to guide and trail prizes to give away. If your municipality, First Nation or organization can organize a hike, walk or snowshoe event (or already plan to host one), please register your event by December 10, 2023 for events between January 12 and March 17, 2024.

Tip Sheets to Remove Accessibility Barriers

Tourism NS has several tip sheets that are applicable to trails to help you make your trails more accessible and welcoming to those with disabilities. Check them out here. Of particular interest are the Access and Inclusion for Visitors with Disabilities sheet and the Activities, Festivals, & Events Sector sheet.


Trail Maintenance Workshops a Success

We wrapped up our successful Trail Maintenance workshops geared for community trail group volunteers and others in areas hardest hit by Hurricane Fiona. We held four workshops in Pugwash, Antigonish, Sydney and Musquodoboit Harbour for a total of 49 participants. The workshops were supported by NSLC For the Good of Our Community Fund as well as the NS Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage.


World Trails Conference Coming to Canada

Hosted by the Trans Canada Trail in Ottawa, the World Trails Conference will be held from September 30 to October 3, 2024. It is a global gathering of trail experts, trail managers and builders, trail destinations, enthusiasts and academics. This year’s theme is Connecting People, Places and the Planet. In light of threats to Owls Head and West Mabou Beach Provincial Park, the Ecology Action Centre is calling on the Province to amend the Provincial Parks Act to ensure that Nova Scotia’s parks and protected areas will stay protected. Add your voice here
