So Proud of Our HCS Families!

Dear HCS Families,

I have never been more pleased to be a part of any school than I am to be a part of HCS right now. With all of the announcements and uncertainty regarding partnering with a church and another school you all have been outstanding. As you can imagine, I've received a lot of communication in the past week. ALL of it from HCS families has been so positive! When you all could have been fretting about carlines, class sizes, or questioning decisions made, you were busy praying for our school and offering ways to help. You started to organize gently used uniform collections to help new families. You began to make a list of families who could mentor new families and make them feel at home at HCS. You jumped in on the side of seeking solutions instead of pointing out potential problems. You wanted to be the hands and feet of Christ. I am so honored to serve at your school. I will share more information regarding Bethany as it becomes available. Thank you for partnering with HCS and your local church to raise up this next generation!

In Him,

Mr. Vande Pol

Saints Sports Report

Hello Saints!!!

The Winter sports season is up and running strong with boys and girls basketball at the High School, Middle School, and Elementary levels.

The High School Boys are currently 12-11 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in Omega League play while playing one of the toughest schedules in Southern California. This past week, the Saints defeated the team that knocked them out of the State Tournament last season in Grant High School on Monday by a score of 66-55 with a very well-balanced attack of 16 points from Will Friel, 15 points from Carter Reid, and 13 points from Caymen Wimmer. The boys followed that up the next night with a HUGE 100-42 victory over Beacon Hill with Carter Reid (30 points in 12 minutes) and Caymen Wimmer (17 points in 12 minutes) both leading the way again. The boys got big support from the bench against Beacon Hill as well with Ashton Shepherd scoring 13 points, Caleb Kerner with 11 points, and Dylan Stueber, Carson Obringer, and Gio Ferreyro each adding 6 points. The Saints will next play tomorrow vs. the top 100 in the state ranked St. Francis at 5:45pm at Pierce College. After that, on Tuesday, January 28th at 5:00pm, the boys will host Newbury Park Adventist at our home gym of Newbury Park First Christian Church for our Senior Night game...the last home game of our six amazing seniors!!!

Hillcrest Christian's first ever JV Boys Basketball team got a huge and hard-fought win last night at Channel Islands High School by a score of 39-37!!! After some schedule changes due to our home gym losing power, the boys battled adversity to make their way up to Channel Islands High School and pulled off a tough win. These boys keep fighting and improving and they represent what the heart of our school is!

On the girls side, they have been doing an incredible job while dealing with illness and stepping up for each other every game! Last week the girls hosted Glendale Adventist with only 6 players and then played at Glendale Adventist the next night with only 5 players and won both games! In the first game, with only 6 players, the girls pulled off a remarkable 12 point 4th quarter comeback to force overtime and win by 4! Jojo Camper led the way in that game with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 steals while Sofia Marcarelli patrolled the paint with 28 rebounds!!! The next night, the girls lost a couple of players due to illness but got Senior, Leyna Spiros back and she did not disappoint as the Saints played the same Glendale Adventist team and won 48-33 behind Leyna's 29 points and 10 rebounds and Jojo Camper's 14 points and 10 rebounds. The girls are currently 2-1 in Omega League play and will next host Newbury Park Adventist on Tuesday, January 28th at 3:30pm on our home court of Newbury Park First Christian Church. Finally, mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 4th at 5:30pm for the girls final home game of the season and our Senior Night game against Ojai Valley School.

The Middle School Boys Basketball teams have both gotten off to a good start with the Blue Team opening up their season with a victory and will be playing again today at 3:00pm against Ventura Missionary School's 8th Grade team. The Gold Team dropped a tough first game but rebounded well to win their second game earlier this week and will play again today at 4:00pm against the Ventura Missionary School's 7th/8th Grade combo team.

In 5th/6th Grade Basketball, the boys won their first game last week against St. Patricks and battled hard on Wednesday before ultimately coming up short on a windy outdoor court at Oaks. The boys are also playing today at 5:00pm at Ventura Missionary School. On the girls side, the girls played an extremely tough game for their first game and were down three key players due to illness before coming up a little short. They look to bounce back tonight though with a full team at 6:00pm against City Christian School at Ventura Missionary School.

Go Saints!!!
