Budget and State Revenue Update

On Sunday, June 25 legislative leaders closed a session that was unprecedented for many reasons: a new Governor; over one-third of state lawmakers new to their positions; a record-breaking economic and revenue forecast; a walkout that lasted more than six weeks, bringing the Senate chamber to a standstill; and thousands of introduced bills. 


Earlier in the spring, HSD had developed and adopted its 2023-24 budget assuming the legislature would approve state-level K-12 funding of $10.2 billion - the amount needed to meet our Current Service Level (CSL) - but also having a contingency plan in the event of a lesser allocation to minimize the impact to students and families. 


Thanks to the tireless work of advocates and their collaborative efforts to engage and inform legislators, by session’s end the State School Fund (SSF) did stand at $10.2 billion for the 2023-25 biennium. National Day of Service and Remembrance



Monday, Sept. 11 is a federally-recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance. Also known as 9/11 Day or Patriot Day, the designation encourages reflection on those who gave or risked their lives to serve others during the terrorist attacks in 2001, and engagement in community service projects

Bond Update: Tamarack’s First Days of School


With bond projects officially over - except for some minor follow-up activities - Tamarack Elementary greeted students on their first days of school: Sept. 5 for grades 1-6 and Sept. 6 for kindergartners. Educational Equity Advisory Committee Meeting


In accordance with SB 732, HSD has formed an Educational Equity Advisory Committee (EEAC) to advise and inform the Superintendent and School Board on issues related to equity and corresponding practices. The next meeting of the EEAC takes place on Monday, Sept. 18 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. both virtually and in the Administration Center Board Room. Public seating is available.

El Grito Community Festival



Kicking off Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month is the annual El Grito community festival at Shute Park from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16. Enjoy mariachi, Baile Folklórico, Latin American foods, artisanal vendors, a car show, community resources, and much more.
